I worked at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a well known and established company. It has many of the perks of a large company. They really encourage involvement in professional organizations. The people in my group were amazing and patient. I couldn't have asked for better mentors.

    Cons

Since the buy out in 2010, the employees don't seem to be as valued as higher ups claim. The benefits of being employee owned are gone. A bit before I was let go, there was a cut of around 100 of the most seasoned and valuable employees in the company to make the numbers better. They seemed to cut their feet out from under them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't freak out every quarter if the numbers aren't perfect. Wait it out a little longer. Consulting isn't pretty month to month.

I worked at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

At one time this was on its way to being a powerhouse in the World of FEMA as well as Transportation.

    Cons

Complete disrespect for clients as well as the employees who work very hard each and every day. Untruths seem to "Leak" to clients which put the PM and employees on the project look very unprofessional It seems that most of the experienced management have fled or have been cut to make numbers look better then they are

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not sure you can salvage what you have.

I worked at Atkins full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Adequate insurance and compensation. Austin staff, on the whole, good to work with.

    Cons

Almost everything else. Company management is constantly shifting management styles without allowing time for the "new" style to have a chance to take hold and work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

15+ year employee who worked nights, weekends, and on vacation for upper management, let go by a shift of power at the top and new president who wanted to teach my #2 in command boss a lesson. If you work at this company and have been there more than 10 years or are over the age of 40, find a new job fast. It's only a matter of time for you.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Nothing that I have seen since 2012

    Cons

Many engineers have been laid off and several good ones left the company because of poor organization, poor management. The ones who stay are looking forward to leave ASAP. The office is driven by office politics, gossip and fear. It is also driven by paranoia.

The managers are only concerned about saving their own tails. Instead of laying off the managers who fail consistently, they laid off engineers who did their best

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the organization, get rid off the managers who focus on the office politics, and manipulate top management.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    good friends, nice junior staff

    Cons

It is falling apart, Management fired almost 15 consultants in a day without any warning. Very inexperienced group managers for all groups. Some of the managers destroyed the good culture that was established years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO should change the management system and the managers asap.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

good benefits, okay work-life balance, 9/80 schedule is also good

    Cons

Structures, HSE and process groups are doing very bad, some of group managers threaten the staff to fire if they do not work hard or if they cannot bring projects to the company. Juniors are the slaves, and group managers are the slave drivers. No ethics at all, they fire staff in a minute. They mainly throw them out.

Group managers only deal with politics, they do not know how to manage the staff. My group manager lied to me at least five times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The y should fire the group managers and bring in experience managers to manage the groups, especially HSE, Structures and Process groups.
