I worked at Atkins full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Worked with an amazing group of people and learned so much in the six years I was there.

    Cons

The company drastically changed once the acquisition took place; as did the morale. Heavy workloads for the ones that dodged the multiple "lay-off" bullet.

    Advice to Management

A company only reaches true success due in part by the people that it employees. Every job is important no matter the title. Ones position should never be referred to as "non-essential."

I have been working at Atkins full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The local Denver leadership works hard to maintain strong office morale. The work is plentiful and the reputation of the company is strong.

    Cons

Client-centered culture leads to constant crisis management to accommodate the client with their every request. Recent changes are taking the decision-making power from local offices and centralizing all processes resulting in project managers being able to control the finances of their projects less.

    Advice to Management

Focusing all of your energy on making your shareholders happy can have a very negative impact on the employees working very hard to try to make it happen.

I have been working at Atkins full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, great people to work with. Company is striving to improve.

    Cons

Processes exist but there is no accountability if one doesn't follow. While company is trying to improve, without accountability there is no reason for Program Management to become more involved with the departments that have been set up to render assistance and take some of the workload off their plates.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on following the processes rather than simply setting them up.

    Pros

well established living off the PBS&J name. Haven't found any pros since the takeover/buyout/merger.

    Cons

living off the PBS&J name. Only interested in getting it done by the worker bees while management offers little support. Much like the apparatus that led to the french revolution and Bastille day.Economy improves more people look for better and realistic opportunities

    Advice to Management

too many chiefs not enough Indians . the peons grinding out the daily work are not really considered part of the team of "Atkins" Maybe management might even pretend to show we might matter instead of being a negative cost (labor) against the balance sheet. Fire everyone but the top brass, That should go a long way toward improving the bottom and top line and improving margins and exceeding fundamentals
