Pros – Management (overall and in the different departments) is usually pretty flexible with scheduling and hours. They like to have fun and maintain a happy atmosphere, but you do have to put in an honest effort. Lots of opportunity to try out different departments if you really want to. Pay isn't anything special but it's better than some other places around.
Cons – A lot of things that shouldn't be personal - promotions, scheduling, time off, etc., - seem like they are. If you and another employee are both vying for a coveted position (say, going from part-time to full-time), it will be given to whomever the manager likes best personally. It didn't happen to me but a few of my co-workers were burned by this and ended up leaving a job they really enjoyed/were good at because of favoritism.
Pros – The free membership is really great, additionally lower level management at ACAC is wonderful. Additionally, it is easy to get time off, which is nice during the summer months.
Cons – The upper level managers are unappreciative of their staff. They are also incapable of hiring an appropriate staff. Instead of hiring a few good life guards and paying them more money, they hire 50 terrible life guards. They speak down to their employees and some of their members and have created a tense atmosphere at the health club.
