I worked at Atlantic Records as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Opportunity to work very close to the artists signed; free in-office artist performances and events; learned about the music industry from inside the business instead of a textbook or class; felt I was involved in the department and its work creating and sending press kits

    Cons

Intern/Staff separation, not enough work and lots of downtime, NO PAY but travel reimbursement, was unable to gain employment with the company after graduation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come on guys, I worked for you. I should be able to have my job back - instead I'm unemployed.

I worked at Atlantic Records full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some great young people work here. Those people are optimistic, for the most part, although you do find quite a few who have read too many books and seen too many movies. That's why working here is a good place to get your foot in the door, but not much more.

    Cons

Skill and expertise isn't what advances you in this company. It's really friendships and being in the right place at the right time. Many of the senior executives are absolutely clueless, but hold onto their jobs for dear life because after this, there are no options for them. A "marketing director' at your typical record company wouldn't merit coordinator level at a real marketing company. Don't even get me started on Digital or A&R. jeez

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real. Get with the times. Everything from your contracts based on records to the way you find talent, the amount of unsuccessful talent you find, the lack of creative artist development, etc is absolutely ridiculous. Take a page from the Tech industry and hire based on merit. Look to the future, evolve and stop losing money in 1000 places with the hopes of just one big kill. The model doesn't work. Much like your senior level employees.

I have been working at Atlantic Records part-time for less than a year

    Pros

As a publicity intern, my role was very hands on in the department. Luckily I had a very strong relationship with my mentor who trusted me with responsibilities and working with the publicists on a regular basis. I was an intern for a little over six months and I learned more there than any other real job that i've ever held.

    Cons

If you don't have a strong relationship with a mentor it's very easy to get lost in the office and have no one know who the heck you are. There are also very few opportunities to actually gain employment in the LA office because it's so small.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring an art department to the Los Angeles office.

I have been working at Atlantic Records full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very long hours with embarrassingly low pay. There aren't many resources available to help employees grow and become more skilled workers. Can be very stressful at times resulting in some employees having horrible attitudes.

    Cons

Laid back environment and very easy to network and even befriend some executives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest more in your employees.

I worked at Atlantic Records as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The creative people/environment. You get to exercise your creative muscles everyday. Work was like... fun. I love how you walk into the office and you're surrounded by music history. They also had a good number of other intern opportunities in addition to your designated intern position. Sometimes you get to work events or concerts and even meet the artists. The travel stipend I guess is a pro.

    Cons

The travel stipend. It's a con as well because it only covers NYC subway for all interns. I still paid a significant amount for transportation because I traveled by train from Jersey three times a week. The biggest con, however, is that you don't often get time or chances to meet people outside your department. Mainly because, well, you're working...
