Developers get ready for hard deadlines, poor compensation, and worse leadership

    Developer (Former Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsFlexible work schedule and the ability to grow from a junior developer into an experienced developer. The benefits package is decent as well.

ConsPay is below industry standard and its hard to get a raise. Atlantis Consulting is unwilling to pay its more senior developers enough to keep them. Worse than that, they are unwilling to change procedures and standards to improve workflow. Projects are very poorly managed and the company pretty much fly's by the seat of their pants with no real long term strategy. Projects are thought up, started on, and scraped very quickly. When they do stick to a project, the requirements and project management is non-existent. This leads to new requirements coming up in the heat of a launch without the timeline being extended. During releases you will work from the morning until past midnight and often times the release is pulled back due to poor project management and lack of Q/A time. Morale here is very low and everyone dislikes management.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvice falls on deaf ears there, but really it comes down to putting more time into the project management phase, less micro-management, and ditching the 12-16 hour days you are sometimes forced to work.

Part of the development team - not all it's cracked up to be

    Software Developer (Former Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsAtlantis consulting has a great atmosphere, and has the potential to be a great place to work. As a developer, we had access to rent the company xbox, the company wii, and also were given a laptop to take home with us as part of the job. The team in which I worked was excellent, and the lack of pay was somewhat made up for by bi-weekly company lunches and other small perks like the soda machine in the break room.

ConsPay was WAY below industry standards. Promised raises never come, so be happy with the free lunches. There is no development process, so planning is usually ignored. As a result everything gets rushed through, bugs are found, and then the rest of the company is upset with the developers for releasing buggy software. Working weekends, weeknights (on a whim) is common place, and your personal life is never enough of an excuse to miss work.

Usually work was also interrupted by meetings instead of allowing us to work. Micromanaging also disrupted the work flow.

Advice to Senior Managementif you insist on working your employees to death, pay them accordingly. If you are unable to pay the going rate for a developer, please do not promise raises.
