Share the wealth to keep employees!

    Pros

Good people, experienced colleagues, with a lot of knowledge. Working on challenging projects. While the fab is obsolete and company has not invested in it for years, it is well run and produces relatively a lot of volume.

    Cons

The management's vision of the company's future is to move everything they can to Asia; while there is still some US presence, it's less and less every year, the attitude is 'for one person's salary in North America we can hire several in Asia'.

    Pros

good pay, Schedule works well for the rest of life.

    Cons

Lack of communication and trust. They say they promote within and encourage growth but moving up usually requires a large pay cut. How is that moving up? Where is the incentive?

    Advice to Management

    please re-evaluate

    Pros

Lot of opportunities to explore as this company is trying to do a lot of things,

    Cons

Very heavy on top management and please have less meetings and reviews.

    Advice to Management

Expand engineering ground level with experience from competitive industries and not just freshers. Experience bring flavor to engineering which when combined with fresh blood works great.

Interesting and challenging projects, but lack of resources too often leads to a "pressure cooker" environment

    Pros

    Challenging work
    knowledgeable and experienced co-workers

    Cons

Key positions are understaffed, leading to excessive (uncompensated ) overtime
people responsible for doing the work have little or no input to schedules (see above )
rewards (salary, bonus, stock) are not in line with peer companies

    Advice to Management

Stop overworking the good people you have - before you don't have them anymore
Increase compensation and/or perks to something more in line with peer companies

    Pros

The most striking thing about working here is the team of people they put together. The overwhelming majority are highly motivated in their positions, so it's easy to be highly motivated in mine. It's not a competition, it's a team effort. Yeah, that's cliche, but it's true here and I don't know how else to express it.
It is an engaging and personally challenging (in a good way) place to work. The team is "light," meaning you'll carry more responsibility and work load. I find this professionally satisfying.
Salary is competitive and there is a decent incentive plan.
Company values are excellent inside and out.
Senior management clearly sends the message it is accessible. They are open to hearing ideas and implement the good ones.

    Cons

As mentioned in the pros section, work load and personal responsibility here are high. Don't work here unless you will commit to the job. The balance between work and disconnected personal life is "OK." Atmel is far from being a start-up, but there are start-up tendencies in Atmel. We're regularly introducing new product and entering new markets. Although Atmel can be thought of as a world class semiconductor company, it is on the small side in that category. That too causes various "all hands on deck" moments.

    Advice to Management

Project scheduling could use some work, but I've found that true of most companies.

    Pros

Employees seem to genuinely care about each other and make a great effort to do their jobs well (at CO site). Health benefits are great and continue to beat local companies. In recent years have given out bonuses and have rewarded exceptional talent with other compensation.

    Cons

Too many managers and not enough leader ship. Too many stubborn intractable employees who only want to push their own agenda instead of working together to find the best solution.

    Advice to Management

When interviewing prospective employees find out if they work well in teams.
