I have been working at Attensity full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are interesting projects to work on here. You get many chances to prove yourself and take on responsibility because of this.

Above all, the people (for the most part) are the big "pro" at Attensity. Great, communicative teams throughout most of the organizations.

    Cons

The culture in the home states/countries of the various sites is EXTREMELY apparent, and they don't work well together. Heads-down engineers end up picking up the slack for the more politically-inclined teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your developers. You're a software shop, so decide what to make and let the developers execute while shielding them from the petty politics that plague certain sites.

    Cons

I worked at Attensity full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work/life balance is good.
    Free weekly lunches.

    Cons

CEO changed three times in a single year. Newest CEO cleaned house, letting go large portions of Sales and executives, replacing with his own people who have no business in those roles. Lots of churn throughout the company, leaving the mediocre behind. Some better people hired on recently, but senior management is still failing. Slow to adopt industry-standard technology. Still lots of buggy in-house software developed by a select few awful engineers. Lots of public, and secret, tension between company locations and groups. Some teams need to pick up the slack for others. Lengthy downtimes contributing to constant customer dissatisfaction. Broken promises on bonus and options.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do something to attract and retain good talent. Once the good ones leave, they're not coming back.

    Pros

The technologies of the company is cutting-edge. Great products under development. The management is competent, and cares about the culture of the company and the well-being of the employees. The campus in Redwood City Pacific Shores is wonderful.

    Cons

Nothing major to mention here. Possible better communications among the sites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better marketing and partnerships would bring the success of the company to the next level.

    Pros

Growing company. The technology we are developing is cutting edge. The coworkers are great people to work with. The future looks very bright and promising. The current leadership team has a great vision to build and execute on. Current benefits are good.

The work can be very challenging at times. The pace is very fast and can be very demanding during crunch time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Attensity (less than a year)

    Pros

Employees are highly committed and fairly well engaged. The domain is fun (social media). The technology is fascinating (natural language processing). There are now a new CEO and CTO who seem to have good ideas on how to move the company forward and fix identity issues that have been plaguing the company for the last few years.

    Cons

Inability to maintain agile sprints because of poor bug triage and release management. I've been on so-called "waterfall" teams that released code more often than these teams. Unrealistic expectations were put on people to get things done, and this caused the team to fragment and not function like a true team. In reality, we were all fending for ourselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide moral, technical and inspirational leadership; don't just manage things.

I have been working at Attensity as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Good developers and people, good middle management, flexible work/life balance, great environment/culture, weekly lunches, good benefits

    Cons

Lots of executive team level churn, constantly changing direction, product road-map that changes continually. Hopefully new CEO will fix these problems because Attensity has good technology and good people. Not much room for growth here.

    Pros

    Cool technology
New CEO came in an cleaned house, letting go most of sales and stripped the company down.

    Cons

The executives at Attensity are a bunch of "con" artists.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lie to employees and customers. This is what happens.

    Pros

Cool technology, some very bright people, competitive compensation and benefits

    Cons

A lot of turnover, no clear strategic direction, upper management out of touch

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since there is now no hope of being acquired, clean house at the top and make a go of it. You're in the right space but it seems like everyone is interviewing and hopeless.
