Pros
Money, meet a lot of people
Cons
There is a lot of work
Pros
Good flexibiility in the working hours. Real attempt made to help you work in the best location for your needs. If your face fits there will be rapid promotion.
Cons
Poor managment of workloads and of personal development for staff.
Advice to Senior Management
Attempt to communicate with staff on a more personal basis
Pros
Good arrangements for protecting employee interests
Cons
Individuals could sometimes show personal favouritism
Advice to Senior Management
Good luck
Pros
Diversity; professional accounting training; friendly co-workers; lack of office politics; okay remuneration; good work ethic; internal staff networks for all types of people; good moral compass
Cons
It's about to be abolished; working there wasn't as cut & thrust as being in a firm; very-shortsighted - ie. employees think the local government world and public sector world revolves around them - it doesn't.
Advice to Senior Management
Sort out the bullying culture. You say it doesn't exist but it does. I have very close friends who have been forced out because of bullying management and noone ever acts. Though, most have them have now left the Commission with massive payouts.
Pros
Friendly Team Environment, supportive, good training courses, opportunities to progess, excellent salary, benefits and study support, diverse and cultural organisation, excellent work life balance
Cons
Inability to choose own project, work can become repetitive
Pros
Allowing for a strong career opportunity
Great environment
Cons
long working hours
not hight salaries
Advice to Senior Management
need to manage internal operations more effectively
Pros
Interesting work, bright colleagues, worthwhile work.
Cons
Seemed to become more concerned about compliance than purpose.
Advice to Senior Management
The audit practice needs to realise the limits to the value buyers place on audit. It's something they have to have. The practice needs to develop more things they want to have and sell them.
Pros
Committed, competent and knowledgeable colleagues; working for the public benefit rather than profit; access to development and challenges; our work is really valued by our clients.
Cons
Clearly the announcement of the Audit Commission's demise in 2012 has put a dampener on things, but an exciting range of options is being explored.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate openly and clearly with staff and clients about how the Audit Commission develops now. Keep calm and carry on!
Pros
The Training package offerred is good. This is if you are passionate about working for the public sector. They pay you to do a CIPFA qualification that lasts for four years. Good pay package. Good work life balance. They also pay for your travel i.e. an oyster card if you're in London and company car if outside of London.
Cons
Poor working environment, working in small teams, not meeting many of the other colleagues. Not so nice office conditions. Also, the CIPFA qualification is too long and should only last for three years.
Advice to Senior Management
Advertise the company's recruitment website more vigorously.
