    Pros

Amazing students, terrific colleagues, competitive pay, great benefits. Mission driven. The commitment to diversity and service to the community are really valued at Augsburg. Many places have diversity in their mission, but Augsburg actually lives it each day. And the focus is really on the students - helping them come here, stay here, and be successful.

    Cons

Not a lot of management layers, which can limit ability to get promoted. Also, some faculty and staff are ingrained in doing things the same way just because they have always done it that way. Change can take a long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep looking to best practices, even outside of higher ed, to continually improve. Offer more employee self-service and web access to update information, etc.

Pockets of AMAZING colleagues - but challenging administrative structures

I have been working at Augsburg College full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Here and there are pockets of AMAZING colleagues - folks who understand our student body, work hard for access and support for students, and support diversity/inclusion efforts. Students are by and large really great too. If you are lucky enough to work with good colleagues, you should really enjoy working here. My own supervisor is flexible with time off, which is great if you have family commitments at odd times - but that may vary across campus.

    Cons

Unfortunately, there is an overall culture that is passive agressive/conflict avoiding. This leads to pockets of poor work and no accountability. HR also does not have clear performance review practices, and those they have are not followed uniformly across campus. If your personal supervisor cares/has the resources to support your professional growth/development, great. If not, you are stuck. I think pay is moderate or on the low end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lots of work needs to be done here. Accountability for all employees to do their work, required performance reviews that have goals/benchmarks and check-ins to ensure folks are doing their job - and consequences/firing if you don't. I know people who have NOT done their job for YEARS, and they left on their own - never fired. Staff salaries should be a little higher and there should be merit based raises for good performance -- this would encourage more good work. More opportunities for advancement within the organizatoin.

I have been working at Augsburg College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I love that everyone knows why we work here. The mission is clear, and it permeates the work we do. Also, we serve a unique body of students, and it provides meaning to the work knowing we can provide some of the most diverse learners in the state with access to a quality private school education, no matter what your background.

    Cons

The school can be a bit filled with homogeneity. Many of the staff are quiet Lutherans (or quiet Minnesotans), which can be a culture shock for those of us transplants. It's a smaller school, so things don't always run the most efficiently.

    I worked at Augsburg College

    Pros

some of the employees, 9.60 is fine for the work we did.

    Cons

Wasn't really what I'd call an "intern". I don't think they were actually ready to teach.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep trying.

I worked at Augsburg College part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

This opportunity was very educational as a student at the time. The work is quite simple and a housing stipend is available

    Cons

There are downsides to any employer. The only downside found here was that most of the meetings were unnecessary. The department spent money that could have been used in other areas more effectively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The program is useful, but be careful you aren't budgeting too much on this program. Not every event needs to be so expensive.

    Pros

URGO program was a blast and I got to research something I am passionate about. Going to help a lot for graduate school.

    Cons

I wish I had more than 10 weeks to work on the research with. However going ahead I would like to publish the work but would need more work done first.
