  1. Great People, but Management does not treat customers well

I have been working at Austin College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very good people. Experts at their jobs. I love the atmosphere. I learned a lot and never felt too stressed. Supervisors are very understanding and coworkers are fun.

    Cons

Management does not treat it's customers well. They change their policies regarding customers and but continue to do business with Aramark, who constantly screws them over. They don't have to deal with the customers so we end up having to put up with problems that could easily fixed by management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat Customers better. Your policies are killing your business.

I worked at Austin College full-time

    Pros

Other faculty are outstanding, dedicated, collegial

    Cons

    Upper management destroying the institution

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salaries should keep up with the cost of living, at least. It is very telling that tenured people are leaving this institution as fast as they can.

I have been working at Austin College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Faculty are excellent, and working with students is marvelous.
-Lots of opportunities for personal hobbies and interests.
-Work is varied but not overly taxing day to day.

    Cons

-Staff and faculty do not mix at all; they are treated as separate "classes."
-Some departments are extremely poorly run and good luck to you if you end up in one of them. They are all talk and no fixing.
    -Moral can get very low.
-Internal politics are an absolute mess.
-Staff are underpaid and overworked. Insufficient precautions are taken during hazardous weather, forcing staff to come in (or take a day off) while faculty can cancel class. This has resulted in several broken bones/car accidents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to lower-level employees.

I have been working at Austin College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits for your children's tuition after two years of employment. Nice retirement package and decent health insurance benefits.

    Cons

Changes are made without a full understanding of department needs and functions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please ask your employees input. The employees are the frontline of contact with customer/students and know what they ask for and understand workings with outside vendors.

    I worked at Austin College

    Pros

Not many employees, so you get to know a large percentage of them.
    Students are very bright.
Nice small campus - don't have to walk far from parking lot.
    Comfortable student center.
    Cheap area to live in.

    Cons

Since it is so small, not many opportunities to do something else, unless you are faculty.
Sherman is not a exciting place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.
When are you ever going to get computerized class registration?!

    I worked at Austin College

    Pros

For a college, it maintains an intimacy at all levels. The President knows each staffer by name; the vice presidents are all extremely professional.

    Cons

Located in Sherman, Texas, the only options are to live in the small community or to commute on North Central Expressway. Nice if you like small town life, but otherwise...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's a reason Austin College continues to be listed among best colleges at which to work: Keep it up!
