Pros
The team at AuthenTec is dedicated, experienced, and very intelligent. Their ability to churn out new, and breakthrough, silicon products is impressive to say the least. It is a small, startup-ish, company so you get to wear a lot of different hats and work on a number of projects.
Cons
Feedback from management can be spotty. I question the strategic direction certain members of management seem intent on pursuing. Software development is pitiful.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on completing a major project before switching gears and starting something new.
Pros
Great engineers/front line employees who care about their work.
Cons
cube farm, all sales folks are considered "program managers" which is equivalent of my grocery clerk knowing how to fix the radiator of my buick.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the engineers that get work done - upper mgmt is out of touch and sales people are not the ones you want running the company.
Pros
The company has great technology. The company is the front runner in the field of fingerprint sensors. The technology behind the sensors gives Authentec a clear edge on the competition; spoofing is just about impossible. Even though the company is fairly sizable it still have the feel of a small start up.
Cons
As with any software related position- the hours required to get the job done. It's also located in Melbourne Florida, one of the quietest places that I've ever come across. Aside from the beach there is nothing else to do in this town. Little to no culture about the place... Good thing Orlando is only about an hour's drive away..
Advice to Senior Management
Many of the processes for getting things done need to be seriously improved.
Pros
Great compensation package.
Great products.
Challenging problems.
Florida lifestyle.
Cons
If you are into research, its difficult to publish papers. Not because of their fault, but because you hardly get any time.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work.
