I have been working at Auto Warehousing full-time for less than a year
Pros – The pay varies depending on the location but generally pretty good. The experience of driving brand new cars. Working outside rather than cooped up in an office all day. Great exercise which builds muscle and loses fat! Definitely not a boring job there is always movement and something to do. Yet it is not too stressful.
Cons – 12 hours shifts. The morning starts off with strenuous, vigorous activity. You better get plenty of sleep before work. You can expect to be very sweaty opening large 2 railcar doors, and bending over for about 2 to 3 hours. The doors seem to be lacking in lubrication. The bending over part is breaking chocks. They are objects pressed up against the tires to prevent the vehicles from moving during the train commute. An average of 500 vehicles with 4-8 chocks per vehicle can be pretty exhausting. This is not a job for people with back problems.
Advice to Senior Management – Recognize our hard work with a free meal every few months. Find a better way to secure tri-deck level vehicles. The old rusty chocks are absolutely terrible, horrible, and gruesome for the hands and fingers
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
