    I worked at AutoTrader full-time

    Pros

    Freedom to make your own schedule. Compensation is above par. It is the number one site in this particular business.

    Cons

    Work/Life balance is not the greatest. They are definitely behind the times technologically with their antiquated servers, not very agile anymore. They used to be innovators, now, not so much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Restructure your IT systems, work faster on the mobile side and focus more on tablets and cellular phones, less on the old way of thinking. Get a better CRM tool for your sales folks.

    I have been working at AutoTrader full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Rewarded for hard work. Excellent Training. Excellent Products

    Cons

    Pay is going down. Not sure why. Products and stress going up, harder to service dealers than ever. Not for the faint of heart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Understand the value and time necessary for retention of accounts and products in more saturated markets and compensate accordingly.

    Pros

    Great place to learn a lot and develop your business skills. Great benefits, PTO and competitive compensation

    Cons

    Lack of diversity at executive level, growth opportunities and promotions not balanced across all areas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to your employees about the issues they have with the direct management and departmental leadership - they are speaking the truth!

    I have been working at AutoTrader full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Smart, skilled, and experienced people (mostly);
    - Strong corporate values (honesty, fairness, competition) are more than just lip service;
    - Honest and relatively transparent dealings with customers;
    - Corporate puts real resources and money behind community service;
    - Employee happiness efforts are more than just lip service. Talk is backed by money and time;
    - Lots of opportunity if you are not an idiot;
    - Very strong financials;
    - Serious attention paid to costs of each project;
    - Corp. not afraid to spend serious money for perceived benefits'
    - Well-managed growth;
    - Company genuinely strategizes for next generation.;
    - Generous pay and benefits, including pension.
    - Interesting problems to solve in a vertical backed by lots and lots of spending.
    - Really nice facilities;
    - Full gym on site. First-class equipment, personal trainers - all FREE;
    - Decent food options in the subsidized cafe

    Cons

    Like all large companies, ATC feels growing pains - too few processes and SOP becomes too much process and SOP. Eventually it will even out.;
    - Very often plans don't survive contact; Lots of hero efforts by individual contributors are often required for projects to succeed. And they often do.
    - Too much red tape sometimes to get things done.
    - Lots of powerpoint and political buy-in required for significant efforts. (not any different than any other place really)
    - It's a first-name place. An hourly worker can call the CEO by first name and it's normal.
    - Can be hard to get recognized, stand out from the crowd. Depends on what department you work in and who your bosses are

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You're doing fine. Way better than a lot of places. If it's not the ideal place, it's certainly trending in the right direction.

    Pros

    Plenty of great people and personalities. Benefits are great.

    Cons

    Customer Operations department is all about numbers with little appreciation for individual contribution. Recent management changes have lead to uneasy environment with no work/life balance. Strict clock in times, break times, and shift bids contribute. Constant initiatives to show upper management appreciates employees and wants their opinions, but rarely are any changes put into place. Performance reviews are nonsense.

    I worked at AutoTrader full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Great people to work with, but necessarily to work for at ATC. This was a great place to work, but the cultured changed dramatically over the last year. The pay was very not very stable, and made it difficult to budget. The company is very generous with its resources. However, as an individual contributor there is very little autonomy to conduct good business. Also, opportunity is very limited and it appears that the model is to look outside company for management hires.

    Cons

    The business landscape is changing around ATC, but it appears that it is being ignored. Low to mid level management were at the right place at the right time. Many are not qualified to manage, but were promoted due to ¨being hot¨ at the time of opportunity. These managers would not have been as successful in current selling conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Look out side of ATC portfolio of products to partner with ad networks. Also, the days of commanding a premium are waning.

    Fast-paced Dotcom / advertising company

    I have been working at AutoTrader full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    At least for awhile this was a tremendously fast growing Dotcom company with tremendous opportunity. The company is owned by Cox Enterprises, and more recently, Private Equity has taken a stake. Most of the early explosive growth has slowed, and the company is now operating as a more mature and more slowing growing company. If you enjoy working on interactive and website projects, it can be a fairly innovative environment with some rewarding and challenging projects. They do invest in training, and they developed a pretty robust in-house training curriculum.

    Cons

    Some departments are much better than others. Although it's a technology company, it's driven by advertising. Most of the best opportunities are lavished on Marketing and Sales. It can be a great place if you're in one of those departments. Other groups often donn't get the same respect, to include IT, the PMO, Operations, etc. Several departments to include IT and the PMO have had a tremendous amount of turnover. Directors, in particular, seemed to last about 6 months in a role, before they were replaced. Also, I witnessed the company let go a number of talented and seasoned individuals while bringing in a wave of new hires. A lot of this activity seemed to be focused on cost cutting and reducing veterans while the company attempted to prepare for an IPO that never materialized.

    Stay loyal to and provide opportunities to the employees that drive your success
