Pros
I have worked in the automotive industry for awhile and Autozone is really not a bad place to work. The pay is ok and if you have a good store, there is potential for bonuses. The benefits are ok with medical, dental, vision etc.
Cons
A lot of emphasis on up-selling but what do you expect? It's retail. I have never worked in retail where there isn't some kind of up-selling.
Advice to Senior Management
It's time to give incentives to the red shirts so that they too can take ownership of their store and their careers.
Pros
Benefits; steady paycheck; Locations; Good coworkers
Cons
Relatively poor culture; Poor work/life balnace; Takes advantage of the econony
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication; Better treatment of employees; At least give your employees a few chairs because it costs you more in retraining and medical.
Pros
Discount, and thats about it
Cons
They hire people off the street that have no clue how to work on a car and give them a gray shirt. Ive been with the company for awhile and have been turn down more then a few times for a manager spot. I think the company likes to waste money on anyone and everyone.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire people and pay them the same, don't hire someone the same day and give them $1.50 more. That isn't fair and i think someone needs to pay us and treat us better. And stop charging us for shirts, the company should give them to us for free.
Pros
Base pay is fair, however its mandatory 50hrs to make a decent wage with OT. Benifits are good for employee, but not with family. Very low bonuses based on performance compared to other sales jobs
Cons
See prosmedical benifits with family is poor... and sales bonuses are sub par
Advice to Senior Management
Offer a more competitive bonus structure and make the position salary. The 401k sounds good but after paying so much for medical i have nothing left to invest. Overall i have enjoyed my experience and am thankful to have a job in these rtimes
Pros
Some of the people I work with.
You do get medical and dental benefits eventually.
Flexible schedule if you need a specific day off.
Cons
The hours and pay aren't very good... If you got 20 or more you got lucky.
Witt... Witt... Witt They want you to sell sell sell to customers (i.e. they want you to sell
a pack of bulb grease for every light bulb you sell or if someone comes in
to get pads they want you to sell them brake cleaner) I understand their philosophy but not
everyone needs it nor wants it and they tell you that the better your Witt score the more hours you'll get... what a joke.
Witt is all they care about
Advice to Senior Management
Give better pay... give more hours... hire people who know about cars. Don't get on us if we don't witt every customer that walks through the door because not every customer needs or wants a witt related item.
Pros
A pay check and benfits. always growing
Cons
Never enough help for want you need to get done on a daily basis. Dm is always on the phone or texting you on how your store in not selling enough check out challenge add on product ( injector cleaner) and would like a update from you every couple hours. This company micro manages you to death a monkey could run one of these stores.will you get Paid like a monkey to $40,000 a year as a store manager and all the B.S. GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!!!
Advice to Senior Management
Value your people and let them run the business like they own it with HQ support. Ease up on all the micro managing it only produces stressed out employee that hate the place. The DM's need to be teacher, Coach and mentor, and not a bunch of micro manager dictators.
Pros
The discount, stable large company, the ability to get hired on as any old idiot, the intellectual and social challenges presented never make for a dull moment. It's actually a fun place when you work with a good crew and a fun customer.
Cons
Autozone is a company of management chain, checklists and reports. There is one hand and there is the other. If you want to do what's right you have to be prepared to bend rules. Upper management is cold, uncaring, under talented and not able to handle anything that lies outside the checklists and reports.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership is a key aspect to management. So is training. Autozone management emphasizes neither. There is no accredited training program to train incoming managers. Management talent falls short of expectations for a multi-billion dollar organization. Stronger pay incentives might also go a longer way in decreasing employee turnover and increasing overall customer satisfaction. Hiring talented managers is a must. The problem is you have to pay to get the talent and Autozone wants to make a dollar from fifteen cents. The problem is that the inequities of this equation will always drag the company away from all that it could be. As a result, I am ashamed to work for Autozone.
Pros
AutoZone has consistently beaten competitors in sales and profits. That make AutoZone a stable player in the automotive retail aftermarket.
Cons
AutoZone has its share of snobby executives, much like any corporate office. These entitled leaders are a drain on the morale of the staff.
Pros
Great group of people to work with at my store. I've worked at the other stores and the people are not nearly as fun to work with.
Cons
The District managers are forced to make you sell items the customer really cannot afford nor need. I'm not going to lie to my customers.
Advice to Senior Management
Give actual rewards to employees who sell items such as "check out challenge" and "witt", not dress code items that should be provided free of charge already.
Pros
Salary and benefits are good
Cons
People are cool to work with
Advice to Senior Management
Hiring better people to work in departments
