I have been working at Avalere Health as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Accounting team is very close-knit. Each person's contribution in the team is greatly recognized. Knowledge gained here can definitely transfer and prepare you to work in large firms.

    Cons

A lot of workaholics. Vague criteria for promotions. Quality of management and employees can indeed be inconsistent. Too much emphasis on hiring MBA's and Ivy League candidates.

I worked at Avalere Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Hard to pick one here but the company definitely pays for everything you need in order to work the long hours that are required of you. They are open to reimbursing you for anything that you might use from phones to parking.

    Cons

Senior staff and upper management promote their own friends from within and the CEO has a tendency to bring in his own friends to run the company. The company appears to be a state of preparation for sale. Required to work long hours without much recognition or pay increase during year review time. HR's primary concern is to take care of their senior staff and it's almost impossible to get any real help from them if you are low on the organization chart. Further more, one of the most painful aspects of working here is how fake and helpful the office management and operations staff is.

I worked at Avalere Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a great place to learn a lot, both in terms of content and skills that will be applicable in future positions. While the organization has been becoming more hierarchical over time, there is still opportunity for staff to get a lot of responsibility even early on, and quickly.

    Cons

Work-life balance is terrible (most staff members are workaholics), staff can be very competitive with other, HUGE range / discrepancy in salaries for staff with the same title, quality of management / senior leadership is inconsistent (some are fantastic, others are not so good).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on fostering a less competitive environment

I have been working at Avalere Health full-time

    Pros

-People are friendly, and very driven by their work. You often work across practices, so it's great exposure to a variety of projects/clients.
-A lot of room for growth, especially as the company continues to expand its practices.

    Cons

The client deadlines can lead to long hours, but you're in it as a team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent about what's ahead as a firm.

I have been working at Avalere Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

-Fast-paced, energetic office. Avalere does very interesting work for a variety of clients, and is well diversified in its portfolio.
-With a supportive manager, you can work on a breadth of topics and types of projects.

    Cons

-Lots of reorganization and perhaps expanding faster than the company can reasonably absorb staff and new areas of expertise
    -Lots of turn over
-Your experience depends a lot on your individual manager and team. Some managers are stronger than others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Administer an annual anonymous employee feedback survey to solicit staff input about how to improve the company.
-Staff should have their own office! It's really challenging to conduct complex analyses when you have to listen to your office-mate's teleconferences and meetings all day. It's also challenging to have one-on-one management meetings (like giving feedback) when there aren't enough conference rooms and most staff have to share offices.

    Pros

    People, Type of work, Culture.

    Cons

Number of Hours per week, transparency, lack of direction

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensate and reward the people that you currently have on staff rather than hiring higher level people to fill positions that are not needed.

I worked at Avalere Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Opportunity to work in numerous therapeutic areas and numerous clients. Numerous practice areas for collaboration

    Cons

Not a nurturing environment depending on immediate management, makes assumptions about prior experiences, expectations regarding time to reach a certain level of expertise with position are not made clear at the outset but changes are being made to help with on-boarding for new employees.

I have been working at Avalere Health full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Fellow staff – You get to work with the best of the best each and every day
Senior management – Senior staff comes from a greatly diverse set of backgrounds and really helps push discourse forward
Culture – Avalere just feels right, everyone is excited to work

    Cons

While not low, Avalere salaries tend to be "middle of the pack" for the field
Like most consulting organizations, work-life balance is what you make of it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing

I have been working at Avalere Health

    Pros

Very vibrant culture, good launching pad to strong careers elsewhere. Decent benefits, pleasant coworkers. Great company parties and some fun perks, such as gift cards and tchotchkes occasionally.

    Cons

No reasonable way to balance work life and home life. General expectation to work long hours, and then evenings and weekends from home. So many people do this that everyone has to do it to keep up. Fast burnout. Very uneven management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a sincere effort to insist that your employees have a life outside of the office and lead by example. Stop setting the standard of being on call 24 hours. Care more about keeping your good employees so that they stay, rather than pushing so hard to keep bringing in more and more new employees when the good ones leave. Solve the problem of the Avalere revolving door.
