I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

For promotions they attempt to be as far as possible during calibration

    Cons

The criteria necessary for being promotion are not well defined. Excuse is given to every employee is, "You are responsible for your career." So you're left to guess what are the best possible choices to take throughout the year. It is largely luck based on what engagement you may be fortunate to get on.

    Pros

Great people ( many left and many good people are leaving.)
Work life balance (used to be there, not anymore)
    Cool projects
    Training and
    Extended Benefits

    Cons

Too many reorgs which leaves people confused
Opportunity to work locally is rare
It has become a clone of Accenture with lots of office politics especially during annual reviews where favoritism is rampant

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow business and trim the fat at the top level starting from Directors and above.

I have been working at Avanade full-time

    Pros

Great people and culture - much more switched on and less political than most companies. Work will vary project by project but you can create your own opportunities by specializing in new and hot areas and by getting more involved in supporting sales to open or expand customers relationships. Benefits are excellent especially extended benefits (gadget fund). Future seems bright and mood is quite upbeat.

    Cons

Travel and being stuck on a tough project even though there is now more focus on local work in the new US org model. Have to learn to protect the personal time. Sometimes customers are not aware or willing to try the new Microsoft technologies which could be better than what they are using. Finding time to train on all the new releases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More direct business to show the full power of what Avanade can do with the Microsoft stack. Keep pushing on the technology leadership.

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Deep microsoft centric skillset of the employees across a broad range of technologies, many smart people, some of the executives at the region and area level are very sharp, strong internal training investments, tends to promote very quickly up to the manager/group manager levels

    Cons

Very bureaucratic, last few years have added layers to financials making it difficult to win business, led by CEO that is accounting rather than people focused, inherited Accenture's risk-management-first attitude which drives nearly everything, training investments are great internally but enabling employees for external training doesnt happen, company's philosophy for tuition reimbursement is terrible, people may be promoted too quickly - leading to a disconnect between title and actual capacity as well as a lack of lower level personnel to put on projects

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that we need more flexibility to compete in the marketplace, trust and enable your employees who own P&Ls. The idea that a regional executive doesn't have signing authority to greenlight anything but the largest projects is ridiculous, re-examine our services to allow us to price skills differently, focus on work-life balance, at most senior levels realize that people are your core assets and to keep our premium position in the industry we need to be people focused again not spreadsheet focused

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Top 1% Talent in NA possessing Highest Business Acumen with Deep Technology Expertise

    Paid Certifications, Technical Training

    Perks: "Gadget Budget"

    Compensation: Only for Experienced Hires

    Cons

Use to be a decent company, but recently Implemented a regional model which means less opportunities with projects matching one's skill sets.

Avanade's Microsoft Region, which throughout the organization is already known for its “up-and-out culture", is not organizationally strong enough to support rapid development for its resources due to Leadership Dysfunction.

Organization pride's itself on having only the top 1% talent, but the disloyalty in the ranks forces that talent out within 24 months. Evident after more then half of Microsoft Region's workforce who recently quit in 2014.

Overly ambitious Regional Goals at the cost of all top talents.

    Cons

Career managers are not well trained to really help you where you want to be. I used to have a call every once in a while with my CM and he will tell me things to do, but never really helped me move up or anywhere

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you have a solid and clear career path and better tools to measure the progress of each consultant

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a consultant you are large and in charge. Avanade was founded by consultants. And yes any company needs good sales people. Avanade does not necessarily believe that.

    Cons

Being in Sales is not necessarily respected. There is a lack of effective communication from the top down. Very dysfunctional with over kill to process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be great to bring in some true sales leadership. Achievable quotas. The 360 review process is geared towards consultants not sales. That should be changed. We are talking about people that view and do their jobs different. And that is ok! Cannot have a room of consultants that do not know how to take a conversation further than the space they are in. Analytic vs Creative

They provide training and certification in AX.

    Cons

Company is not able to find projects and falsely promises
its employees that they will be on projects soon. They kept me
waiting for months to place me on a project, and then laid me off.
