Pros
Good work life balance. Good place to learn latest UC technologies.
Cons
Compensation not up to market rate. Bonus too little. Salary increment non-existence.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to have clear product strategy.
Pros
Good Culture, positive environment, understanding people around..
Cons
Little improvement in overall communication
Pros
Avaya gives the chance to work with very capable and ambitious (in a good sense) people, while growing in the communications business working for top-notch clients.
Cons
Like in any big fast-growing company, there are gaps in responsibilities and processes that can be frustrating to some people.
Advice to Senior Management
When acquiring companies or opening new lines of business, consider spending (or should I say investing?) more time planning how the new area would fit and interact with the rest of the company, and monitor the roll-out more closely to identify gaps. Additionally, make investments in operational resources when profitable areas requests them promptly. Money you don't invest in profitable teams is revenue you leave on the table for someone else to take.
Pros
Avaya offers great career growth and development opportunities. It is a market leader worldwide, with an innovative and outstanding portfolio that is set for success. At Avaya, people management is taken very seriously and ethics and integrity are non-negotiables. All I look for in the ideal employer.
Cons
Internal processes can sometimes be quite challenging and worklife balance can be affected by business demands, but can also be managed by the mobility Avaya offers to all employees.
Pros
Getting to continue to work with same wonderful employees even after Avaya bought PEC/Nortel Government Solutions.
Cons
I don't like it when many reviews made here are by HRs or upper management. To me working for Avaya feels like working for Griswold's boss in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation movie, without the happy ending. Ever since Avaya bought us, they have been nickle and diming us. First they reduced our vacations, reduced 401k matching from 6 to 1.5% and then graciously raised it to 2.5 (now that's a miracle here). Flexible hours? Good luck. Want to take vacation, better plan it months in advance, you don't want to upset your managers because they have to project their revenues.
They reduced or eliminated bonuses. And for those os us who are still eligible, they came up with cruel strategies so we will not be able to get anywhere close to what we used to get, and the strategy gets worse each year. Do you know what that does to us employees who rely on them as part of our pay?
Pay raise is a joke, but what really bothers me is they cut even the smallest items. No holiday parties or company outings. Office cleaners were replaced with cheaper ones so we'll have to let trash stink over night or over the weekends, replaced office coffee vendor with cheap Mr. Coffee, which I guess was too luxurious item because soon after they have replaced it with the cheapest model from Keurig, and now expect us to supply them. Green teas are gone too, paper towels & utensils are scarce, at this rate I think I may have to bring my own toilet paper soon. Medical benefits are a joke too. $3000 deductible for two people or family? Oh wait, it's only $1500 since they would pay the other half, hew! Only $1500 deductible!!! Unless you are really sick, good luck meeting that deductible (yes you will have to pay out of pocket for prescriptions too until you meet the $1500 deductible).
During a meeting with senior managers someone asked about getting stock options. The response was why should we? This is where "Power of We" comes from? (motto geniously created by top management) I guess it makes perfect sense when you interpret we = senior management. Yes, sadly I feel your power of we everyday... but won't be for too long.
Advice to Senior Management
It is sad because the company has a lot of potential, only if it cared about their employees. Show the employees you care? Can you think of something you've done recently to show the employees they are important?
Pros
Very good work atmosphere, Work from Home, My manager especially was very good compared to others when it came to maintaining work life balance.
Cons
Not a lot to learn, No challenging work. Most people spend time working on legacy systems/code. Not a lot of visible innovation.
Advice to Senior Management
Innovation and staying ahead of the competition. Disconnect between teams in the US and teams in India should be reduced.
Pros
Excellent work culture
Excellent work life balance
Friendly people
Cons
One section of people do all the work and are pushed to do more
Under leveling of resources
No transparency of levels at which you are hired while joining
No training on fundamental information required to do the job
Advice to Senior Management
Recruitment team- Do not under level while hiring. Share the hierarchy details with the candidate who comes for the interview. If not the resource will leave in a short span.
Do not give less jobs what the individual is capable of. Do not feel insecure.
Pros
Great product technology
Very impressive people at the senior technical/ architecture positions
Starting to drive programs to sell solutions accross multiple product families
Cons
Lots of turnover in the middle management ranks and some at the senior ranks
Management decisions are not always explained or even not comunicated
Pros
The pay was the best thing about the job.
Cons
The culture is not positive. It was actually a depressing place to work.
Pros
Good pay, good people, interesting work, Reasonable job security. Professional, courteous culture.
Cons
Zero-sum forced rating can be demotivating
Advice to Senior Management
Avaya has a very competent, professional engineering staff. The forced 30/50/20 rating is demotivating and creates unproductive competition among the engineers.
