Advice to Senior Management
Provide training opportunities especially to services delivery teams and better work life balance.
Pros
Work Life balance, Approachable Leadership
Cons
Preparation for dealing with CHANGE
Advice to Senior Management
CHANGE is good but how we prepare to deal with it and communicate it is equally important to make the CHANGE accepted and successful.
Pros
Working on new technologies to be a leader in Unfired Communications. Avaya provides good benefits and a competitive salary.
Cons
Departments in Avaya do not work very well together to solve customer problems until the customer has emphasized they will leave Avaya.
Advice to Senior Management
Mangers to be knowledgeable of the day to day jobs for the employees they support.. Encourage teams to share knowledge and to be proactive on customer support issues.
Pros
Great people to work with.
Good benefits and salary compared to other companies
Several roles permit virtual office work.
Technology and products are OK
Cons
No career development or professional growth.
Management does not develop employees for growth or internal promotions
Work is usually performed without any significant direction or appreciation from Management
Director layer people are not effective and cannot execute strategy well
You will develop very niche skillset that is not very useful outside of Avaya or field. it will be hard to find employment outside of this space.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to develop people from within and give them a chance to grow.
Implement leadership development programs and leadership rotation programs.
Empower employees and give them challenging assignments
Dont just provide lip service that employees are important to company. Show it in action.
Pros
Technologies and products are best in class. They are market leaders in VoIP and they have the best in class infrastructure to develop and test.
Cons
They are market leaders in VoIP and they have the best in class infrastructure to develop and test. But at times they are really bullish about this. That may not work all the time.
Advice to Senior Management
The technology career ladder needs to be redefined such that one should not feel as if there is no growth after 10-12 yrs of experience.
Pros
My position was fairly autonomous. Worked very hard at my job this past year. Respected by my peers and customers, but not upper management.
Cons
No plans. One day they have 30 new jobs the next there's a hiring freeze. No succession plans. Definite nepotism going on. Poor branding, poor marketing. They throw money at inconsequential projects rather than investing in their people.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees!
Pros
Great market to be in, every time some new opportunity coming up in
Cons
Either you are in Santa Clara or you are out. You are expendable.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to manage your teams. And that includes their workload.
Pros
Great place to meet people that will move on and help you down the road in your career.
Cons
No Job Security or chance for Advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the company more open to internal advancement opportunities, instead of having preference of hiring from outside the company.
Pros
High level of integrity
Excellent work/life balance
Friendly co-workers
Conscientious management
Excellent benefits
Cons
Pay and bonuses could be better
IT is very poor with a mishmash of internal apps that don't work well together
Nortel still not integrated well
Lack of planning in some areas
Advice to Senior Management
To compete successfully for talent, you need a more inclusive and generous bonus plan. Also, Avaya needs to make more use of its own technology.
