I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Avery painesville at one time was thr best place to work. The management in the 70's 80's and 90's involved the employees on team to deal with issues (FEA members). In 2000's Avery went degree for all management from teamleader up and thats when it went sour.

    Cons

Micro managed, misleading on issues, no retirement or benifits when you leave in the future from avery. I would not by stocks anymore in this company. the CEO will take a large raise and stock option while the workers on the floor didn't get a raise for a couple of years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hope that Stan Avery cannot get out of his grave because you all will most likely loose your jobs. Look at the OSHA and labor laws closer and start following them to be a better place to work

I worked at Avery Dennison full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, vacation and holiday schedule, flexible scheduling. Many opportunities to learn and expand skills and abilities through working with crossfunctional teams, global team members, and special projects. Very supportive of employees pursuing new opportunities within the company and in the relocation process.

    Cons

Not a "family type" atmosphere; due to continued "re-structuring/organizing" activities, you constantly worry whether or not you will have employment the next week. Talented employees are either lost through the restructure or to pursue new opportunities due to the lean structure and long work hours. Work-free vacations and weekends rarely exist either as it is the norm to always have your phone/email on and be available. Do not plan to retire from here---learn and move on.

    I worked at Avery Dennison

    Pros

Relatively easy to make career changes. I saw people move from finance to commercial, customer service to marketing, marketing to techical, technical to purchasing, etc. Also, they are generally open to professional training, provided they aren't on one of their many spending freezes. The rank and file employees were generally curteous to each other.

    Cons

Avery Dennison is in a constant state of flux, with major organizational shake-ups occurring every 4-6 months. However, the few folks in management spots are generally never touched. There is a ton of turnover at this place, but again always in the non-management ranks. This isn't the place for innovative people looking for quick career advancement on the basis of hard work and performance. If you're vocal and professionally challenge the status quo, you're not going to last the next cut. The HR staff is a skeleton crew and very unsupportive, spending more time recruiting than retaining talent. Every person I knew that was laid off in one of their re-orgs landed in a much better position, and I knew of only one employee that left Avery that wanted to return. My advice: if you need something stable enough for quick growth, keep looking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Each year you conduct employee surveys and we say the same thing - clear the middle manegement entrenched in these divisions (Directors and GM's) and let some new blood in there.

    I worked at Avery Dennison

    Pros

Avery does a good job of training thier employees. Most of the training is trial by fire but supported trial by fire.

    Cons

The downsides of Avery Dennison are simple. The company is a very large firm that acts like a small business ( and not the good parts of a small business ) . The company has the scale to make huge improvements in efficiancy but does not because of the divisional focus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say that it is important to consolidate the back office operations.
