I worked at Avnet Electronics Marketing full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I can't think of any really other than a job. It is a plus if you even get an interview because they are so disorganized that you have to fight tooth and nail to get one (it took me about 6 months).

    Cons

So many it is too lengthy to list. Sr. management is completely incompetent, and never listens to their employees. Ed Smith is at the helm and is basically a sales guy that talks out of his ... most of the time and likes to threaten people's job when they point out areas the company can improve (I have seen him do this on several occasions with large groups in company meetings). The Sr. leadership is 8 white guys over 50 and 1 black woman (who is completely incompetent and screws up every project they give her). Most of the middle managers are good hard working people but Directors and above are all good-old-boys. I was there 3 years and beat my goals each year - and was never given a raise because they had "raise freezes" every year (even thought one year they made over a billion in profit, and it was their best year ever). Not to mention they love to lay people off! Especially if you are over 45. I am 29 so this didn't effect me, but I know dozens of highly skilled workers that were asked to retire or "take a package" because of their age. The bottom line is this company sucks. I left on my own to go to a much better place and am happy I did. Keep looking, you will be sorry if you land here instead of somewhere that would actually value you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit. You are running the company into the ground.

I worked at Avnet Electronics Marketing

    Pros

    People are very friendly
High interaction rate with people from almost every electronics based companies (i.e. Samsung, Intel, Fairchild semiconductors, etc.)

    Cons

A ton of work to do at quarter end and from what I've heard EVEN more work to do at fiscal year end.
I felt it was very group segmented didn't really get the feel of one autonomous organization.

    Recommends
    Approves of CEO

I worked at Avnet Electronics Marketing

    Pros

Benefits are average and suitable. The work life balance is good and communication is practiced within the ranks.

    Cons

If you don't mind being over looked due to favoritism and not being part of the good old boys crowd than I would not recommend the company. There is a lot of disappointed managers who are not promoted and only the favorites get recognized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to hear the voice from lower ranks and stop the philosophy of competition between divisions and start acting as a company with the same focus. Upper management is too separated from what is really happening within the workforce.

I worked at Avnet Electronics Marketing

    Pros

Paid time off, medical, dental and vision benefits, 401k and pension options, willingness to work with the personal schedules of employees.

    Cons

lack of communication between management and employees, lack of upward mobility in relevant training and career development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be restructured in a way that management understands the needs of the company and does not only include decision makers at the executive level.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO
