I have been working at Avnet Electronics Marketing full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good people, decent pay. Employees are treated with respect for the most part. Company is overall a good company to work for. There are many people that have been with the company for 30 plus years.

    Cons

Policies constantly changing, direction of company focus is always changing. Focus is not the same on every level. Lower level managers are not consistent. too much favoritism depending on who you know. Medical insurance is mediocre, vision insurance is next to nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to recognize employees correctly. praise hard workers. Check out your slackers. Lots of them. Stop punishing the good workers and letting the old timers slide because of who they know.

    Pros

Avnet has a great culture with many talented people. The general work enviornment is good without too much micromanagement.

    Pros

Good salary, interesting work, direct management and co-workers are good to work with. They are one of the few companies that still have a pension.

    Cons

Few opportunities for promotion, the distribution business is mature and very competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Avnet Electronics Marketing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoy working for Avnet because we literally work with customers at the forefront of technology. Every day is a new challenge and opportunity.

    Cons

The current business climate is really difficult. Stagnant growth in our industry has given rise to slow revenue growth but lower gross margins, which means cutting costs is the norm. Unfortunately, those costs, more often than not, come from the applications engineering, which is where we help our customers innovate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decreasing engineering headcount will only reinforce the idea that Avnet's value is on the supply chain and will lead to declining margins long-term.
