Pros
Very interesting work, friendly mid-level management, fairly friendly and efficient employment force are a few of the good reasons to work at Avnet. The on-the-job trainers are very knowledgeable, and great teachers. Also, the location I work at is fairly newly constructed, has an excellent and highly effective layout, and a fairly nice break area.
Cons
So far, the only con I have found from my own point of view has been that I have been a temporary worker for a decent amount of time now and am hoping to be hired on full time. I understand it might be a while longer yet, and just think that the time to wait between becoming a permanent worker might be a little long for some workers. Other than that, I can't think of any con's I've noticed while I have been working there.
Advice to Senior Management
Some advice my co-workers were saying about management needing to understand, that growing and cutting costs can sometimes run counter to each other.
Pros
Financially strong company with large cash warchest.
Cons
Antique information technology hampers performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should sit in an inside sales desk for a week, each year.
Pros
Benefits
My co-workers.
Core values tenets, unfortunately they do not respect nor enforce.
Cons
Very long hours without recognition some times not even a chance to have lunch or going to the restroom.
Ended up sick and went on FMLA and got kicked out because of these. They work you to dead.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep allowing these abuses from your management in HR and Sales and you will most certainly fail. Listen to employees not only management. Employees are a zero to you. HR never sides with them in EMA.
Pros
Friendly Environment. Nice people to work with, management seemed to care about your input.
Cons
Tend to have layoffs just to hire people back in 6 months.
Pros
Good Culture, lots of hard working people around and flexible timing. Management doesnt care of the work hours as your work is complete.
Cons
lots of politics and growth prospectus are very less
Pros
It was close to home, and located in a very nice facility that was convenient to restaurants, services and had adequate parking.
Cons
It seemed like the least competent people got promoted, and it was very much an insider's game. Those who knew the right people got equipment and other resources. The rest of us got what was left. And there was too little work, and what there was of it was unchallenging.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your employees better and bust up the good old boys. Give everyone the same equipment, and provide more interesting opportunitites.
Pros
Good entry level PC tech position and pay
Cons
The company cares more about quantity over quality of work; so much so that they rip you for being slow even when its not busy? Leads and managers are under qualified and somewhat unprofessional. Also very poor training; I've learned everything by myself and from a temp?
Advice to Senior Management
Experience doesn't always translate into knowledge and hard work so pay attention to the progress the people you keep on staff.
Pros
Avnet has good employee relations and treat their employees with respect.
Cons
Avnet focuses a little too much on training and certifications
Advice to Senior Management
Spend less on training and add a couple of head count
Pros
Opportunity for advancement as long as you are connected with the right people. The company seems to be stable and will be around for a long time.
Cons
The company is top heavy with a "good old boys club" atmosphere, where certain people get all the recognition, promotions and special recognition are based upon being in this good old boys club, or an attractive woman who are favorites of the good old boys club.
Advice to Senior Management
Do something to break up the good old boys club.... which would probably be difficult, but the company would be much better off, as talent will get the opportunity, and resources won't be wated on people who don't perform.
Pros
Large company, good training opportunities, respectable benefits, good work/life balance.
Cons
Non-stop layoffs; knee-jerk reaction to business cycles; executive team that is very resistant to change, despite with they say. Claim they want "innovation" and they want to be known as a tech company, but they are stodgy and very hesitant to try new strategies.
Advice to Senior Management
Engage in better planning to avoid the continuous cycle of hiring, layoffs; hiring, layoffs. Employees are never at ease, fearing their jobs are always at risk. Need a much more innovative leader. Roy is charming and charismatic, but largely ineffective.
