    Pros

Great work environment, everyone is very friendly and willing to help you out. A very lean organization so be prepared to learn new things and take on a lot of different projects. Managers are very flexible allowing you to prioritize school.

    Cons

Low Pay, you are only getting 14/hr compared to the average Information systems intern with median compensation of 17.25/hr

    Advice to Management

The internship is a great experience but for full time salaried employment the hours are too long for the below competitive pay rate.

    I worked at Avnet full-time

    Pros

Telecommuting was nice. Co workers were great. They did have some extra benefits that were good.

    Cons

Management did not listen to employee advice about business so mistakes were made instead. Management was not forgiving at all when an honest mistake was made. Pay was not great and even though they were profitable and had 1 billion dollars in the bank they still laid off people.

I worked at Avnet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

good benefits, work-life balance and very good people. The company in general is well structured and everything is established and has a process which makes things more organized. Each department has its own day-to-day activities so it varies widely by department

    Cons

multiple cycles of lay-offs and this happens in any public traded company around quarter results if the results are bad however in Avnet Services it happened massively this time so some practices were wiped out. Management share very little information about strategy and future direction which creates a risky and un-stable atmosphere among employees

    Advice to Management

Clarity in direction is important, we understand the nature of the company as publicly traded however surprising your employees every few weeks reduces the trust and loyalty to company.

I worked at Avnet (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Wonderful people, great place to get industry experience, build relationships in the tech space and learn fundamentals.

    Cons

VERY conservative pay structure, not terribly innovative, behind the times in adopting and implementing tools and processes that progress the company forward. Tough to move ahead - they make more "checkers" moves vs. "chess" moves with leadership; same people in different roles.

    Advice to Management

    Be more competitive in compensation.

  8. No Loyalty found

    Pros

Large company, established and solid company

    Cons

Everyone is in CYA mode, management looks at people as ways to control cost and budget. IT is really bad.

    Pros

They paid well, & fine tuned your sales & other skills

    Cons

once I was in my 50's they laid me off after a decade plus of dedicated service I unfortunately allowed this job to consume my life

    Advice to Management

before you let your older experienced employees go at least allow them a 2 year notice/agreement to mentor the college students you are now hiring.

I have been working at Avnet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are lots of changes happening in technology today, and Avnet is at the center of it. If you like learning about and working with a wide variety of technology solutions, the breadth at Avnet is hard to match.

    Cons

Restrictions on public companies make it hard to move as fast as I would like to on some things. But this a necessary trade-off for the access to capital that comes with being public.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in new ways to add value beyond pure distribution
