Pros
Avnet is growing (at the moment) and there is a lot of opportunity. It's one of the very few Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Phoenix, too.
Cons
The cold corporate environment makes working at Avnet uncomfortable. The work environment is dated and feels like they are stuck in the 1990. I was expecting a more progressive environment seeing how it is a company that operates in the tech industry.
Pros
always changing their strategy and approach to market. If you like constant change, never getting complete explainations of why decisions are made, always working under Sr. leaders who are only looking out for themseleves...it is a great place.
Cons
feedback and communication from leaders (above your immediate manager) will be non-existent. very passive agressive culture. If you are failing, you will rarely be told and will NEVER be given feedback around how to improve. you can always tell what the latest read is among the leadership team is by the buzz words they use. Until you have worked in the industry for 20+ years.....your opions and ideas will enver be valued
Advice to Senior Management
walk the talk...we are a distributor and our people are the only value add to our services. quit treating employees like the commodity parts and services that we sell.
Pros
Financially strong company with large cash warchest.
Cons
Antique information technology hampers performance.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should sit in an inside sales desk for a week, each year.
Pros
Very interesting work, friendly mid-level management, fairly friendly and efficient employment force are a few of the good reasons to work at Avnet. The on-the-job trainers are very knowledgeable, and great teachers. Also, the location I work at is fairly newly constructed, has an excellent and highly effective layout, and a fairly nice break area.
Cons
So far, the only con I have found from my own point of view has been that I have been a temporary worker for a decent amount of time now and am hoping to be hired on full time. I understand it might be a while longer yet, and just think that the time to wait between becoming a permanent worker might be a little long for some workers. Other than that, I can't think of any con's I've noticed while I have been working there.
Advice to Senior Management
Some advice my co-workers were saying about management needing to understand, that growing and cutting costs can sometimes run counter to each other.
Pros
Avnet is a very employee-friendly company. Lots of opportunity to grow your career and learn new technologies. Very strong management team.
Cons
Very large IT with many disparate applications. It's a challenge to fully understand the architecture and application portfolio. Not a great deal of cross collaboration across teams.
Pros
Benefits
My co-workers.
Core values tenets, unfortunately they do not respect nor enforce.
Cons
Very long hours without recognition some times not even a chance to have lunch or going to the restroom.
Ended up sick and went on FMLA and got kicked out because of these. They work you to dead.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep allowing these abuses from your management in HR and Sales and you will most certainly fail. Listen to employees not only management. Employees are a zero to you. HR never sides with them in EMA.
Pros
Friendly Environment. Nice people to work with, management seemed to care about your input.
Cons
Tend to have layoffs just to hire people back in 6 months.
Pros
Supported some independence, especially for telecommuters
At the end of the day some very bright and hard-working people
Good facilities
Cons
Top-heavy management did not pay adequate attention to managers and workers in the trenches
Highly inflated numbers to support program decisions
Utterly unpredictable and highly political lay offs that had little to do with work being done
Terrible internal business planning and implementation -- often smoke and mirrors
Marketing teams over-worked and under-qualified for many tasks
Failure to truly use web presence for customer support
Advice to Senior Management
Stop thinking of the company as a loading dock and turn it into a true high-tech dynamo
Break up the ole boys crew so far removed from the trenches
Pros
Good Culture, lots of hard working people around and flexible timing. Management doesnt care of the work hours as your work is complete.
Cons
lots of politics and growth prospectus are very less
Pros
Good co-workers make it bearable to work at Avnet.
Cons
Management keeps finding more ways to NOT pay employees.
Advice to Senior Management
CEO and Sr. Staff need to focus on becoming one of Americas Top 100 companies to work for then market share, profits, etc. will follow. Management by intimidation will have the opposite results.
