Very large company that values people!

Sales Executive (Former Employee)

I worked at Avnet full-time for more than 10 years

Pros* World-Class organization
* Largest Industrial Electronics Distributor
* Many divisions and many opportunities
* Great people throughout the organization

Cons* As in all large companies, you can get lost in the mix
* Could use more top-down communication to keep the troops informed

Advice to Senior ManagementAs you deal with a very challenging marketplace, do not lose site of the great culture that has been created over the years.

Good experience

Senior Financial Analyst (Current Employee)
Phoenix, AZ

I have been working at Avnet full-time for more than 7 years

ProsIf you really look for new opportunities, you find them. Avnet has a variety of positions where you can learn different subjects. Most people are very team oriented and friendly. Once in a while you find an arrogant person, but may not last very long.

ConsVery low compensation compared to the industry. Tend to freeze salaries quite often, and Avnet doesn't make up for the loss when it is doing good. Keeps teams very lean, in other words, people have to do a two persons job, sometimes more. It doesn't offer bonuses, and it tends to look for position replacements outside the company. Politics are an everyday game. If the big guy says no, it is hard to pass that.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to change the culture, and increase employee incentive programs. Need to invest more in its people. Otherwise, will keep losing talented employees.

Ok, but limited opportunities for advancement.

Account Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Avnet full-time for more than 10 years

ProsMany good people, lots of resources, substantial inventory positioning, good value-added programs, good training.

Conslack of advancement opportunities unless you're a "golden child" or a "good ole boy". Many good people passed over for advancement which eventually leads to them leaving. Top management talks a good game, but at the end of the day, the important thing is the almighty profit dollar. Pay raises were non-existent, and sales budgets always manipulated so a person could not exceed their budget.

Advice to Senior ManagementWithout sales, the company ceases to exist. Reward your field and inside sales people as they deserve.

Overall good experience as an Intern

Suppy Chain Intern (Former Employee)
Phoenix, AZ

I worked at Avnet as an intern for less than a year

ProsCompany culture is great. Very open, you can talk to anyone in the building. International company, lots of opportunities. Community involvement, fun programs and events.
Mentors taught and put us to work asap.

ConsFrom an intern position, did not always have work. Some interns rarely had anything to do, but others were constantly busy. I guess it depends on your manager and team. Old ERP systems.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe have certain interns rotate between other teams to see their functionalities.

Great Learning Opportunity, but limited growth

Applications Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at Avnet full-time

ProsIt's a positive atmosphere, as they give you many different opportunities to grow your knowledge about the electronics industry. You get the chance to touch a little of everything and see what's going in the real world.

ConsThe company is a great place to start for anyone that is fresh out of college. But it seems that there is not much youth around. Most of the employees have been around 20, 25 and even 35 years. This leads to a lot of stagnant ideas. No one is really coming up with anything new. It does become a matter of who you know and what they think about you.

Worst company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Simi Valley, CA

I worked at Avnet full-time for more than a year

ProsTheir are no pros about this job

ConsWorst company I ever worked for. The people on the line or warehouse get treated very poorly and management and human resource does care about the employee's.I work there just because I needed the money. You get no raise or any hope of move up in company.I would not recommend this place to anyone.I would think twice before working here.

Advice to Senior ManagementI hope your company fails

Good Company to Work for

Solutions Sales Representative (Current Employee)
Tempe, AZ

I have been working at Avnet full-time for more than 3 years

ProsStability - many, many people have been there for 10, 15, 20, even 30 years. Respect a life/work balance. Casual athmosphere.

Conspay is at the bottom of the scale. being promoted from within requires that you make it known you want to move around/up within the company and continuously be vocal about it. Very easy to get complacent and pigeonholed only to find yourself doing exactly the same thing in 15 years. Not that there is anything wrong with that, if it's what you want.

Advice to Senior ManagementLots of overqualified people in the ranks that could do more. need to develop a way to identify the hidden talent and capitalize on it.

#1 Electronics wholesale in the world.

Product Specialist (Former Employee)
Phoenix, AZ

I worked at Avnet full-time for more than a year

ProsAvnet is the worldwide leader in electronic parts supplying the electronics industry. Consumers don’t realize that electronics are made from a combination of microelectronic manufacturers. Most people just see the brand name on the end product and thinks that’s where it’s made. The truth is that each electronic component is an equal piece of the puzzle making that product work. Avnet’s role is getting these parts to companies at the best price so they can build electronics.

ConsThere's fierce competition in the electronics industry over pricing. Pricing of parts determines the final retail costs of products. A majority of the parts are made in Asia.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management is world class globally managing parts for the latest technology to hit the market.

Disappointing

Supply Chain Analyst (Former Employee)
Milpitas, CA

I worked at Avnet full-time for less than a year

ProsMost of the employees are very helpful and nice.

ConsLow pay. No clear communication. A lot of finger pointing, micro management

Advice to Senior ManagementVery disappointed that my boss was not the one to inform me about getting laid off. Instead, she had aother manager do that. Never did I get a call or email or anything. Very upsetting that someone can be that inconsiderate in a situation like that
