Former Employee – worked at Avon Products full-time for more than a year
Pros – 9-5 job. Can work from home if needed. Free samples occasionally.
Cons – Poor management. Everyone is always changing their minds. There's never concrete decisions made. People are always switching positions or leaving the company. Hire experts in that area. Don't put someone that has no experience in that area in that position. Developing too many products and you end up with so much excess inventory. Why 26 campaigns? Why not 13 campaigns and sell great value product? There's meetings about a meeting about a meeting. It never ends! They put one person doing 3 to 4 jobs at once. All the North America offices needs to be more collaborative. Everything is always rushed at the last minute. None of the processes ever goes smoothly!
Advice to Senior Management – Make better decisions. Hire more people. Stop having one person do three to four jobs at the same time!

Former Employee – worked at Avon Products full-time for more than a year
Pros – If you have good work ethic, respectful, willing to learn then this place is full of opportunity. Strong support system in supervisors and management. Great perks and benefits package.
Cons – Position requires a lot of training, policies are always changing, consistency is sometimes lacking in policies and procedures
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to appreciate the customer service reps, especially in 4th quarter. Review the training process.

Former Employee – worked at Avon Products full-time for more than a year
Pros – Global experience (but due to budget cuts no traveling to any of the markets, just lots of conference calls)
New product development (if in Global Marketing)
The people
Good products
Cons – AVON is a direct seller- if you want to do real marketing, this is not the place for it. You will be in a project management role. AVON does not develop strong marketers- there is no discussion about the consumer or insights. There is little consumer work done- most of the time VPs make decisions based on n of 1- what they think and feel.
Lots of unethical practices and people are treated very poorly. But HR and management ignore all issues brought to their attention. Pay is incredibly poor but you are expected to work long hours to redo strategies as management continuously shifts direction.
Most of the strong talent has left or will continue to leave. And management will continue to wonder why there is so much turnover. In fact so many people have left morale is incredibly low.
Advice to Senior Management – Sell to Coty. Or wait. Guess that ship has sailed.

Former Employee – worked at Avon Products
Pros – At least they did a bridge when health insurance went away for my mother.
Cons – At almost 91, when they cancelled the $10,000 life insurance benefit it is now so costly to purchase life insurance - thru their deal with MetLife it is $313 a month!! What a deal!
Advice to Senior Management – The cost to you to maintain this "benefit" for the older retirees would be minimal compared to their loss of confidence in a company they loved!! Most of these women thought of this as a "burial policy" and it is now impossible for them to maintain it on a pension of less than $500 a month.

Current Employee – been working at Avon Products full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – relationships, discount on personal products, car, flexibility
Cons – 7 day work week, management is trying to hard to turn company around, they are changing their mind constantly. Hard to stay focused and organized. Direction is away from selling and more toward network marketing to strengthen rep count.
Advice to Senior Management – Please get input from the management in the field. We are out here every day, we know what is going on... you are making decisions that affect everything, without consulting the workers who are in the trenches for you.
