Good Independent Sales Organization to work for.

I worked at Avon Products part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

This is a great job for stay at home moms. You can set your own hours/times, have home parties or not. No pressure sales job. Ordering is done online and you can get your own website for your customers to order on-line if they wish. I liked the fact that you ordered your products on credit vs having to pay for the products before you received payment from your customers

    Cons

You had to order/pay for samples.

    Pros

Incredible people accomplished in their various areas of expertise; very family friendly; iconic company that's truly dedicated to helping women and changing lives; compensation could be higher.

    Cons

The business challenges can be stressful and affect morale. They also lead to a feeling of uncertainty. Employees want the turnaround to pick up the pace.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. You're smart, savvy and no-nonsense. You're definitely the team that's going to turn things around.

I worked at Avon Products as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

My coworkers were exceptionally helpful and eager to assist me in learning and fitting in to company culture. Flexibility in scheduling was a huge plus.

    Cons

The Co-Op program does not have a formal structure, so personal initiative is required to have an educational internship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A more structured co-op program with specific educational opportunities would be excellent for bringing in new talent.

    Troubled Company, Choose Wisely

I worked at Avon Products full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A company with a 125+ history, Avon is still a very respected brand name in many parts of the world, particularly in developing markets such as Brazil, Philippines and Russia. When you join Avon, you are part of a global company, albeit one that is in turmoil to figure out whether it will still be around as a brand name in five years. Perks are typical of an standard CPG company, work hours are reasonable for most roles, and given the challenges the company is facing, they are having to pay well to attract the right talent.

    Cons

Avon is really struggling to figure out how to be relevant in today's business world. This translates to a number of challenges for the employee. Your role and responsibilities are only good until the next management consulting company is able to convince the Executive team about the next restructuring that is going to make all the difference. The work culture is rapidly evolving as old management is being replaced by new, so be ready for some seat-of-the-pants leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The biggest issue at the Executive Management team level is that the CEO and her direct reports don't really have a convincing turnaround plan. The stock price reflects the lack of confidence in the company. Because so much of the senior leadership is new, there is constant "deja vu" feeling on all turnaround efforts - this has been tried before and it did not work, so why will it work now. Bottom line, the company needs to go private, restructure so that it is a developing market focused company, re-craft it's product portfolio to be more focused and relevant to its most successful markets (which is not the US or UK!) and then re-emerge as a more relevant player. Direct selling is still relevant in many developing markets, provided the earning proposition is viable.

I have been working at Avon Products as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The office culture is probably the thing that sticks out the most for me at Avon. Everyone is friendly and open about what is going on within the company. Work-life balance is pretty decent as well- with the benefit of summer hours and having the option of working from home on Fridays.

    Cons

The company at this stage lacks a sense of direction, as a result of which one may not expect a lot of personal growth here. Since the company is going through major changes, things always seem to be chaotic.

    Pros

as a sales manager pay ok, benefits great. Leadership stinks, dominated by males in a female industry, mainly Hispanic males leading.

    Cons

Does not care about selling products. Usually prefer women with Hispanic heritage who will do what they are told .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

to late to change the culture of the business, get out before your are " Retired".
