I have been working at Avon Products

    Pros

You can make your own hours. It is very flexible. If you want this to be your only job and you are great at selling and promoting products, then you should do well.

    Cons

You need to dedicate a lot of time in order to make money.I always had other jobs and did not have the time to dedicate. Also, the cost of the books and material necessary to run a business kept going up. It is not for someone who doesn't have the extra time and money to make it a successful career.

I worked at Avon Products full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay! Great benefits! Vacation/sick time. Work-life balance was seasonal. Certain time of the year the employees knew what was expected.

    Cons

Moral went down hill. Wages froze. Most positions work loads became heavier. Better risk for injury. More work less people. Managements attitude toward employees changed. It was hard to take pride in the company when it felt like boot camp at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

GREED. Not staying true to yourself. It can all come crumbling down. No one thought the TITANIC would sink. I had the same mind set about AVON. Yet it took a few bad decisions to shake the foundation.

I have been working at Avon Products full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Avon has a great history and provides an opportunity to all (more often than not women) to earn addition income. They contribute a significant amount of money to charitable causes; specifically Breast cancer and domestic violence. They provide great benefits.

    Cons

Avon has struggled mightily over the past 6 years. Within the supply chain, direction from management for the most part the focus has moved away from processes improvement, towards cost cutting (which doesn't make much sense given one should lead to the other). In addition, with the poor performance, so many of the A people have left. Senior leadership has turned-over at an unbelievable rate leaving the employees with little or no direction and scrambling to keep the business afloat. It is truly a shame to see such a great company struggle so mightily, it was such a great place to work. People that used to work here truly believed in the company and worked to make it great. Unfortunately poor decisions by management, as well as an inability to get our products to the customer efficiently (sales have been catastrophic) has led the company down a path of constant layoffs. The offices are a bit depressing now with so many people gone. They also need to focus on talent development and retention, otherwise there will be no one left.

I have been working at Avon Products full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

People in the trenches had tremendous pride and belief in the company. Onsite consultants, off-shoring, and several rounds of layoffs have destroyed its' very foundation.

    Cons

Long term employees undervalued, laid off to avoid pension benefits. Morale is at an all time low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. Go back to the roots of what originally made Avon a great place to work.

I have been working at Avon Products as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Because you are an independent rep you make your own hours and how much your work/sell determines how much you can make. You don't have to punch a clock and worry about anyone looking over shoulder all the time.

    Cons

Getting rid of local regional managers that used to help new reps and relying on other reps to recruit and train and manage new reps. Push for reps to recruit. If you're not recruiting lots of new reps and spending tons of time managing their work you aren't very valued anymore. If I didn't like a number of their products i would have given up selling it already. Also the fact that you have tell customers they can return anything at any time, but reps pay the return postage fees and lose credit for sale etc. I am not that motivated anymore like I used to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help do more to get reps to sell better and stop this stupid push to get reps to constantly recruit and manage a downline. 10 really good reps who sell a lot and keep at it are far better than 100 who sell just a little for a very short period of time than quit. Maintain parts of the reps website that you've let go such as product info section.
