    Great place to work in

Manager (Current Employee) White Plains, NY

ProsWoman friendly organization. If you perform well, they really acknowledge and take care of you. Being a Global company there is opportunity to work with people from all over the world. It is a diverse and fun environment to work in.

ConsExpensive location. Very difficult to find a good home considering cost. The office is located in upstate NY and the cost of living is pretty high. Day cares and house rents are expensive. This is not a "Con" of the company per se, but just an issue with the location of the office.

Advice to Senior ManagementNone as of this moment.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) White Plains, NY

    ProsGood compensation and benefits
    Employee development

    ConsWork-life balance
Company did not adhere to its vision

Advice to Senior ManagementAvon made a difficult discussion to cut the Global Implementation project of SAP, however, in my opinion it was a bad decision. This was the way to keep Avon competitive.

    Great company, poor business plan

Senior Project Manager (Current Employee) White Plains, NY

ProsGreat working environment, wonderful care of employees, great products

Consbusiness model is not workable anymore, so the company is not successful anymore

Advice to Senior ManagementStop relying and centralizing the business on Avon Representatives. Put products in stores, bolster online retail, let Avon Representatives act as fashion experts and give them a % of online sales.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Laughable Senior Management in Technology is Tragic Comedy

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) White Plains, NY

ProsGreat talent at individual worker level, especially among those who are newly in-country
Terrific international employees with wonderful work ethic and impressive technical skills
Quality of full-time employees (who were former consultants) and talented consultants

ConsSenior management in charge of technology transformation are utterly ignorant of the technologies they are responsible for implementing
All executive level reporting is done in PowerPoint with dumbed down bullet points and few words in big fonts, stripped of any meaningful details
Program management does not know how to use MS Project, they say it is "too hard to understand" so no project plans are created or tracked
Executives don't know how to use MS Visio, either, so mapping Business Processes is an alien experience and creates hostile confusion
I found the women in charge to act in a "mean girls" high school kind of way: forming cliques, heckling you within earshot, then turning on each other
Certain executives with the least technical knowledge would reject the very good advice of senior, experienced consultants, then terminate them without notice
Entire solutions that required skills with certain in-demand software were rejected outright due solely to management's ignorance of industry best practices
Any effort to educate senior management about how to employ necessary software solutions were met with accusations that you were "just trying to sell them something"

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't put incompetent people in executive positions responsible for global technology transformations. Any senior leadership spot should be merit based, otherwise you'll continue bungling your international tech solutions and make headline news for spectacular stupidity. There are too many women relying on their income from Avon to support their families and even to climb out of poverty for this company to gender norm executive appointments.

    Independent Sales Representative

Independent Sales Representative (Former Employee) White Plains, NY

ProsYou work your own hours. No need to check in or out.

ConsYou work off pure commission and it is not a significant amount

Advice to Senior ManagementThere should be other more productive ways to make more money without recruiting other sales people.

Avon's mission is admirable and so are many of its people, but how it operates is broken and there is NO career dev't.

Senior Manager (Current Employee) White Plains, NY

ProsGreat to work for a company that also has a good mission... it is the #1 micro lender in the world I think. Many people are down to earth.

ConsPromotions are rare and usually given to save someone from leaving rather than from merit. Raises and bonuses are non existent since company's financials are so poor. Hours can be bad as there have been lots of layovers and mgmt doesn't make decisions effectively. Company does not encourage change as much as it should.

Advice to Senior ManagementOne way out of the mess is to start focusing on your people who work for you. Prioritize talent management and career development. Encourage people to speak up, take risks, and reward them for doing so (even if the results are perfect at first.). That will create a more innovative, positive environment.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
