I worked at Ayco full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It was a good company with good benefits at the time. Had yearly bonuses that were good at Christmas. Enjoyed working with some of the people there, a few employees were there a long time. Always had plenty of work.

    Cons

Administrative employees not always treated as well as upper employees. Financial planners and financial analysts put on a pedestal and given much more freedom. Many take extra long lunches. Administrative employees work really hard but not given the recognition they deserve. Lots of office politics and people talk behind your back, hard to move up. A ton of work and not always time to finish it in a day. Management expects a lot but not willing to pay administrative what they are worth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time appreciating your administrative staff because they really make your job so much easier and help your day run smoothly.

    Pros

Great clients. You'll learn financial planning, develop resilience and self direction.

    Cons

Can't speak your mind. Go with whatever management wants. Never, never, ever say something, anything, that can be construed as anything other than absolute gratitude and appreciation. SVPs are super egoistic, and that's the way senior management likes it. It's a cult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're the problem. Share the wealth and get some counseling (psychological).

    Pros

Some people were were nice and helpful

    Cons

Management sucked they lie and say they will help train and take time to teach you but they don't and then expect you to know everything about the job and when you don't get it or need a little more explaining they fire you without warning saying "your performance is poor". Well obvious thats going to be the case when theres no management support. Also they lie about getting you fully licensed never happened and NO room for growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a good company to work for overall, but there is a lot of work for low pay before making real decisions and pay.

I worked at Ayco full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you don't come into this job with personal financial planning experience, the training and experience you will gain is very good.

    Cons

The local management is unprofessional, petty, and inept (not from a planning perspective, but from a management perspective). The hard workers and talented individuals are not as well treated or rewarded as those who brown-nosed. The hours are long, the pay is humorously low for what is demanded of the position, and the work environment is extremely negative and toxic. Unless you really don't care how unhappy you are in your professional life, find somewhere else to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring on board someone who has management experience, can recognize talent and believes in rewarding those who work hard, not just those who kiss up. Further, be honest and open in your dealings with those that work with you and for you. Finally, and I can't emphasis this enough, don't be childish and petty at any time for any reason! There is no place for that in this or any other industry.

Current Employee - Intern Level II in Saratoga Springs, NY

I have been working at Ayco as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The work environment is personal yet professional. All the people are very supportive and understanding, with most of them having been in your position before. The company provides a great deal of training in a wide variety of topics which is nice and helpful, it is best to take full advantage of these it is free education. There is a wide range of work an employee in this position will be responsible for doing which makes it interesting.

    Cons

The compensation is low and at times you are unsure of any potential work advancements. Some of the work may be tedious and require you do things which you may not believe is part of your job such as making copies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees competitively compared to other comparable positions. Also, make job placement and career advancement more achievable so employees feel as if they have more to strive for.
