I have been working at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent benefits. A few nice people, but, micromanagement of staff kills any positive culture.

    Cons

Not very progressive; lack of advancement options. Culture is lacking. Retention is probably due to poor job market. Good place to learn and gain experience, then move on. Very old school management, especially in HR, resistant to change. Too much micro managing going on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better management that knows how to develop and retain talent. Walk the walk, don't just try to talk the talk. Managers are more concerned with timing lunches and breaks than anything else.

I worked at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great Schedule, Awesome Products and training

    Cons

Lifetime Managers. Old School Thinking. Company does not retain qualified nurse educators but simply replaces them about every year rather than deal with problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain employees instead of replacing them which is far more expensive. Consider management turn over. Being away from home and traveling is already high stress enough, quit making employees fight for expense reimbursement. Expense reimbursement feels like a game of how can we get back what we promised!

    Cons

Poor management. Poor communication. No repercusssions for personnel who decide they will do whatever they want.Very limited advancement opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a some new manangement that is willing to deal with issues instead of letting them linger.

I have been working at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very conservative company, but they invest in their employees through training and job security.
They give you a chance to prove yourself and allow you to transfer to a different position to match your skills or career goals.
Solid product offering in a wide variety of healthcare areas. While every company has negatives, working for a private vs public company has many advantages. They are 190 years old so they must be doing something right!
Great international integration. Many opportunities to experience and befriend employees from other countries.
Very good benefits with low contributions..Health, Vision, Dental, Legal, Life Insurance, EAP, Free Gym Membership, Internal onsite health clinic, Massages, Above avg 401(k)......

    Cons

Very slow product evolution. They are always late to come out with the next generation of their existing products which puts them behind the competition. By the time they launch an upgraded product, the pricing and margins have come down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire an outside consultant to review legal and regulatory competency and make changes that will enable the company to compete on an even playing field

I worked at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are genuinely nice people that work there many of them stuck in their position because of the economy.

    Cons

Where to begin....I worked for this company for several years. They are more worried about timing exempt and non - exempt employees lunch breaks than how much an individual contributes to the company. The people that are still there from when it was McGaw are grandfathered in to whatever job they want. Even if you are an engineer you can become the head of clinical affairs even if you have no medical background. In most companies this position is held by either a nurse or doctor.

HR is really a piece of work in this place. I saw in a previous review a mention of leaked confidential info, that is absolutely true. They can't keep there big gossipy mouths shut. The funny thing is the employees often get written up for speaking about the confidential info that their HR rep told them in the first place

The turnover rate is phenomenal largely because there is always someone being targeted by HR. The whole dept should be fired and replaced with competent staff. Many of these people are also "oldtimers" that have been grandfathered in to their positions.
Just a word of advice if you are accused of something by one of these dinosaurs HR will take their side...they belong to a special little group and will never let you forget it. If it is something you had nothing to do with you will immediately be accused of being defensive. There is no true care or understanding for the employees. You are peons that cannot possibly be equal to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of worrying about treating your people like interchangeable pawns. You know when you made them remove everything personal from their desks, photos, plants ect. You should have been treating them like ADULTS. How did you think that was going to influence morale when you did. Especially were still allowed to have as many mementos as they wanted. Yippee....We got to sit in a little jail cell all day.

Current Employee - Pharmacy Technician in Northeast, NY

I have been working at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The best training for compounding TPN's you could get.

    Cons

You must stand ALL DAY LONG! Even the cavemen sat! All employees are physically falling apart due to the stress standing all day does to one's body. The location where I am working in the Northeast has 0% growth potential. You basically will never make more money than you are making now. The big wigs could really care less about their employees, they want them to operate like robots. Little secret to Mr. CEO.....people are not robots! I can keep going, but I would be typing for hours about the deplorable way management undervalues and takes advantage of good workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Benefits are not too bad, could be better. Management should not just be a pharmacist, the need training or education in management. Some people are not cut out to manage others, but somehow incompetent managers get put into place and it never ends well. Huge turn over, the only reason employees stay is because of a dismal economy. Oh another piece of advice to management..stop nickel and diming your employees and micromanaging them. All people need to feel their value and be respected.

I worked at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits, Good place to work if you are starting out or want to get experience in the medical industry then move to another company in 2 to 3 years to make more money, Opportunities to learn

    Cons

Poor Advancements potential-tend to promote from the out side; Pay- lower than industry average; Treatment of people and Security- demoted at least 7 managers in the last 3 years, they give poor reviews out of no where

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Changes don't seem tied to an overall strategy. Don't change something for the sake of changing. Help your people understand how changes fit in an overall strategy to improve the business.

I have been working at B. Braun Medical

    Pros

Great people. Overall most of the people at the company are really good and knowledgable. They are willing to work together to accomplish tasks.

    Cons

Pay scale is weak. Upward mobility is very limited. Everything needs to be approved by everyone, so it takes a long time to accomplish tasks. Management is not open with information. Upper level VP's and above are out of touch and therefore any business plan makes sense as long as you can justify numbers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in some people with fresh ideas and allow them to express their views without being viewed as upsetting the apple cart. Re-evaluate middle management, most are not very strong.

I worked at B. Braun Medical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lower level people are hard working and need their jobs

    Cons

Senior leaders have no clue what is going on. They only care about their numbers, with no respect for quality or for patient safety. Preach cultural change but have no interactions with line staff.
Cheap, too cheap to fix machines

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire anyone who has been there too long. Dinosaurs are killing the company. Keep the COO out of the business.
