There are plenty of jobs in here for honest, hard workers

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Nashua, NH

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe off Friday's are hard to give up and the business is NOT boring.

ConsOverload of younger middle management needing to grow out of the 'aloof' stage.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm sure you're doing a great job, but my situation is just that... a situation. I have always been honored to work for not just the company, but the people around me.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great Experiance

Contracts Administrator II (Former Employee)
Endicott, NY

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than a year

ProsVery supportive atmosphere. Expected a lot but provided resources to meet goals. Positive corporate culture.

ConsExperience is manager dependent. Procedures are mostly tribal knowledge.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvance support of lower-level employees. Empower with delegation of authority and responsibility.

Engaging with lots of smart people

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at BAE Systems USA

Pros1) Smart people, who are extremely technically proficient
2) Depending upon your group, generally really nice people to work with on a daily basis
3) lateral move opportunities. During times when there are plenty of programs, it's easier to move around between projects.
4) Engineering/Financial Leadership Development Program - great for new hires

Cons1) Stability. Depending upon government contracts for funding can be scary at times. When it's good, it's reeeaally good. When it's bad, hold on.
2) No culture of leadership development at all ranks.

Like a Really Bad Soap Opera...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Chesapeake, VA

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time

ProsDecent pay and benefits, and a few cool coworkers here and there.

Cons*Payroll and benefits are unreliable - there are constant mistakes and changes, and more
mistakes. If you don't watch your paycheck like a hawk, you'll end up shorted on something somwhere.

*Upper management is out of touch, there's no middle management, and supervisors
are in their positions due to seniority, not ability. They micromanage you because they have no
idea how to BE managers; but HEY, they have a degree, and they're friends with the good ole
 boy network!!!!

*If you kiss ass, have a crooked moral compass, and pretend to care about ethics and policy,
you will fit in perfect. If you are a good, honest hard worker, you can forget about ever going
anywhere in the company, or feeling like part of the "team".

*NEPOTISM.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry actually following the ethics and SOP's BAE SAYS it follows in it's manuals; BE what you SAY you are!

Good opportunity, advancement was rapid.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at BAE Systems USA

ProsDirect manager was very engaged and receptive to input.

ConsPoor HR support, poor logistics support, complicated evaluation process for direct reports.
Upper management was not directly engaged with lower levels.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your lower levels of management

Great exposure to technology

Electrical Engineer (Current Employee)
Nashua, NH

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than 5 years

ProsBAE is filled with very talented engineers. They have been trying their best in the past few years to have junior engineers and senior engineers work together for the exchange of knowledge. Great for people whom want to learn. 9/80 work hour week!

ConsThere is an enormous disconnect from the decision makers to the lower level engineers. It's hard to switch roles within the company unless you're in their Leadership Development Program.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter connection with employees

Review of BAE Systems IT

IT Analyst (Current Employee)
Herndon, VA

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than 3 years

ProsCan gain exposure to high end technology very rapidly

ConsSr. Management has been the consistent downfall across the board

Advice to Senior ManagementEngage with your employees to learn what they do instead of using metrics based on ticket numbers which mines exceed they're expectations but its no where near an accurate measure of the work performed.

Office politics to the extreme

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThere used to be exciting projects on the site, but government cutbacks and moving parts of the projects to other sites killed most of that. Many talented individuals were lost in this process.

Most projects you'll have a good work life balance, no forced overtime.

Most of the senior management and tech leads were great people. Very easy to talk to and generally cared about anything you brought to them.

ConsI dealt with a lot of bad-mouthing behind my back and to my face but in another language. I would often hear my office neighbors insulting all the other coworkers in languages they couldn't understand. Making fun of their weight, abilities, etc.

A few of the people on the team could not code at all but be a senior coder on a project. They would argue a lot about random things they obviously had no idea or proof about.

Like any defense company, you will be doing a lot of paperwork. Far more paperwork than coding.

There were several instances of lazy contractors on various teams there. Not all the contractors were lazy, many were good. The terrible ones, some would disappear during the day but claim a full days worth of work. Others would be snoring in their cube.

Standard benefit and typical Gov. Contract

Lead Software Engineer (Former Employee)
Annapolis Junction, MD

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time for more than a year

Pros- Standard benefit and nice corp. environment
- Better locations such as buildings
- It was better salary then others for me
- Good network with government agencies and other companies

Cons- Too much acquisition
- Tree structure management
- Short term notice for anything
- Benefit employee's responsible too high

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider better communication with high paid, especially cleared, IT employees about their future. They will easily get another job and never come back when you need them otherwise.

Program Manager

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at BAE Systems USA full-time

ProsGood work environment, overall good benefits!!

ConsToo many reorgs in a short period of time!! Management does not do a good job communicate well the company's direction. The defense business is in decline so if you are looking for something more stable to work here.

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
