    Project Manager

Project Manager (Current Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsGreat professional development experiences. Company is very willing to train employees in the latest technologies and professional practice. Had good mentors and coaches during the growth years. Company offered great benefits and fair pay.

ConsDownsizing and transitioning work between divisions caused some employees to doubt the stability of their jobs. Management has not always open with plans for future work.

Good environment, Too many processes to follow and therefore nothing gets done.

Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsGood Salary, friendly co-workers, decent benefits

ConsManagement not innovative, too many procedures to follow to get things done

Advice to Senior ManagementStreamline your processes. Too many managers will not let work proceed unless all processes are followed even when they don't make sense. Too much unnecessary busy work and project planning not enough actual work gets done.

    Unclear direction and opportunities

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Minneapolis, MN

    ProsFlexible schedule; great health and dental benefits; 401(k) matching;

ConsUnclear direction from management. Lots of recent reduction in work force in recent years.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat's happening? Another reorganization in two years shows signs of weakness in leadership.

    Not Bad

Contract Manager (Former Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsGood Benefits and pay, supporting our troops is number one priority of most of the employees, and it was important to be a part of that.

    ConsToo much bureaucracy.
    Form over substance.
Some of the Executive leadership seems out of touch.
    Defense industry is cyclical.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate with the front line employees.

Good work, good people to work with, but management's stuck in the past.

Staff Software Engineer (Former Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsThe pay's good, the hours are reasonable, the work is interesting, and the people getting the work done are good people.

ConsUpper management does not understand the modern development environment, they're stuck in a production-line mentality. Currently, the company appears intent on closing down the Minneapolis development facility, perhaps leaving only the manufacturing line there.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe days of production line contracts that last for 20-30 years appear to be over, focus on winning and profiting from development contracts.

Enjoyed working at BAE in Minneapolis

Staff Engineer (Former Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsI worked with the company for thirteen years, until a massive downsizing in August 2009 of close to 50% of the staff. I liked working with a wide variety of technologies and projects, but the best thing was the top quality of my co workers. People had pride, motivation, and helped each other.

ConsWhen our former company United Defense was purchased by BAE a few years ago things started changing. People had less confidence in management and their ethics, morale dropped, and we seemed to lose focus on our core product lines. Maybe we got too big too fast.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to look back to the things that made United Defense successful before the purchase by BAE Systems.
