I have been working at BASF Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Global and regional responsibility, the jobs are big and meaty, hard work and innovation are rewarded, you can move around quite easily, big learning and development budgets, transparent job posting process, financially well run and financially carefully managed, very smart people who are dedicated to their work but also willing to help whenever needed--there is good collaboration here. There has been a true evolution over the years I've worked here, the employee population is much more diverse and there is an openness which did not exist before, and a huge focus on employee development with the resources behind it, but there is more to be done.

    Cons

To go from good to great: Regions often subject to global governance, not a lot of opportunity to maneuver sometimes--this has a really bad effect on regional leader behavior--lots of baggage gets projected onto direct and indirect reports; outdated processes and practices; treating everyone the same trumps really appreciating the needs of the individual customer; poor IT processes and tools for such a large organization--IT polices and attempts to squash any non-SAP tool; lots of rules; not a true speak-up culture across the whole organization(yet), too many Germans in US leadership roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move global roles based in Germany to the regions, hire/place more local talent into key executive roles, plan for the future including less of a focus on headcount management and more on buying and building talent for profitable growth.

    Pros

You work with really great people who are always willing to help you. There are a lot of different career opportunities in such a huge company.

    Cons

Could have better pay. Plant work is not for everyone, but seems like it is not an option not to have some manufacturing/operations experience if you want to move up in the company.

I have been working at BASF Corporation (more than 10 years)

    Pros

High priority is put on safety and ethical behavior. Company also allows a flexible work schedule including teleworking as long as it doesn't interfere with your performance

    Cons

Feedback to internal job candidates is very poor when you don't get the job if you even get any feedback.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluate people based upon what they can do rather than filling a job based upon some preconceived checklist of skills needed, especially when some of the skills are irrelevant.

    I worked at BASF Corporation

    Pros

Innovative new building, many different state of the art products

    Cons

It isn't widely known despite being the number 1 chemical company in the world, HR can be harsh and revoke verbal job employment offers when negotiating, the building is located in the middle of nowhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The number 1 chemical company in the world needs to be known for being number 1, so employees can feel proud and the company can attract top talent. HR needs work to be more personable and not hasty.

We are sorry that you did not have a good experience. The only circumstance under which BASF retracts offers is when the background check requirements are not met.
