I worked at BASF Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent management, benefits and opportunities to learn and grow. The Coatings business was outstanding. Juan Carlos Ordonez is one of the best leaders I have ever worked for.

    Cons

Long hours and low work-life balance if you want to succeed.

I worked at BASF Corporation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The biggest aspect I took away from my 3 month internship was the people I worked with. I worked with anyone from panel operators, to maintenance contractors, all the way up to engineers and department heads. The company is very process oriented and acts quick when process interruptions take place. My coworkers took a high level of interest in their interns.

    Cons

Self training for my specific role was necessary with very little guidance.

I have been working at BASF Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good opportunity to advance if you work long hours. Competitive salary and benefits.

    Cons

Lots of reorganization and downsizing. Businesses must make financial KPIs quickly and consistently or they will be restructured or sold off. Lots of job loss, lots of turnover. It is harder to keep a marginal business going sometimes than it is to make a profit in a growing one, but hard work in a declining business is not rewarded.

I worked at BASF Corporation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

A great learning experience. Decent pay. The culture was great. Had the opportunity to meet people in other research groups. Felt very involved with the ongoing research.

    Cons

I do not believe I encountered any cons during my two summer internships with the company. I have nothing negative to say.

I have been working at BASF Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great work environment
Great People - vast majority are interested in establishing and maintaining productive work relationships
Great Benefits - Healthcare, Tuition Reimbursement, Strong 401K
Flexible work arrangements (virtual office is an option for some roles)
    Work life balance
Option to spend 3 to 5 years working abroad or overseas

    Cons

Company wants to see you spend 3 years in your role before moving on. However, there is a steady flow of employees who spend as little as one year in their roles before moving on.
Promotions are based on management favorites
Must have a chemical background (chemistry or chemical engineering) for most roles
Limited opportunities for minorities... you have to be white to be noticed
Most jobs call for technical experience that is not actually necessary
Hiring Managers are not brave enough to look at non-chemistry backgrounds for promotions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If Company Policy allows for movement in 3 years, please do not force employees to pay meaningless "taxes" in their role for longer than they have to. Expand virtual work options for non-production roles such as sales, product management, supply chain, marketing etc. Commit to better utilizing employee skills to improve your business.

    I worked at BASF Corporation

    Pros

Innovative new building, many different state of the art products

    Cons

It isn't widely known despite being the number 1 chemical company in the world, HR can be harsh and revoke verbal job employment offers when negotiating, the building is located in the middle of nowhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The number 1 chemical company in the world needs to be known for being number 1, so employees can feel proud and the company can attract top talent. HR needs work to be more personable and not hasty.

I have been working at BASF Corporation as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great smart coworkers, feels like a family working together. Lucky interns work on some challenging problems which is great.

    Cons

The pay is small for a chemical company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay interns a little bit more as this will encourage them to work for the company.
