Pros
Excellent opportunites for growth at BASF
Cons
A lot of heirarchy to navigate.
Pros
-Stable company, profitable.
-Average compensation package.
-Upper management has good direction with respect to market and compentation
Cons
-Poor mid level management
-No reason to stay past 2013 due to change in retirement package.
-Salaries are not keeping up with market for core engineering sector, i.e. senior engineers and above.
-About have the engineering staff would leave if given a chance, due to poor mid managers.
Advice to Senior Management
-Review retirement packages if you would like to keep some of your serior people or they will find jobs somewhere else.
-Get rid of some of your mid level managers who you had to move to lower tiers and promote the people who are your workers.
-REVIEW the resumes of some of your senior personnel and see what they did before they came to the company. You will be supprised.
-Don't promote or hire people based on anything but what they can really do for the company.

Advice to Senior Management
Have salary go with the standard of living for NY
Pros
BASF truly cares about its employees. It has a number of initiatives which are in place to encourage professional development and advancement.
Cons
It is often difficult to make large changes because there is a significant amount of bureaucracy which slows decision making.
Advice to Senior Management
Providing more opportunities for employees to work with different parts of production could allow more fluid and complete results.
Pros
Global company that exposes you to the dynamics of the global economy. There is a lot of opportunity for career growth early in your career if you join with the appropriate degrees.
Cons
You must work internationally and be willing to move in a moments notice to ensure a healthy upward trajectory. Base salary is slightly low for the area, but benefits are top of class.
Advice to Senior Management
Value and incentivise those individuals who remain loyal to given business groups for the duration of the career as much as those who frequently move across business groups. The experience of long term individuals within one group is irreplaceable.
Pros
- relatively fair evaluation
- although local managers sometimes narrow, management is consisting of experienced managers who will listen
- good work-life-balance
Cons
- salary below industry average until management
- huge company, diffucult to change or be entrepreneurial
Advice to Senior Management
take a little more risk, currently "avoiding mistakes" gets you promoted
Pros
BASF provides a good atmosphere to grow and be promoted. Lots of work and above average talent. Would recommend as potential employer. Very careful with their money and spending, which is good, in a Global market place.
Cons
Took away a good reason to stay with the company past 2013, when they did away with the retirement program and made the dental plan more complicated for employees. Promotions for non-degreeded personnel is not based on performance or education, really understood.
Advice to Senior Management
Management style has changed over the past couple of years for the better. HR needs to review the compensation regarding retirement and promotion of less qualified employees. Don't try as hard to promote by anything other than qualifications, company track record, performance, etc..
Pros
BASF is the leading chemical company in the world.
Cons
Self independent, fast- learner, have to pick u new concepts very quickly, do a lot of market research if you are not an engineer
Advice to Senior Management
New direction
Pros
BASF offers good balance between work and life. The compensation package is good and the facilities offered to employees are nice.
Cons
BASF is a big company. However, it offers little challenges to those that come into the organization with proven succesful backgrounds. There is no clear path for organizational growth. Supervision has a lot to learn about treating people equally.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to be consistent when dealing with employees and create a career ladder that is clear to all employees. Learn to retain talent and provide challenges.
Pros
challenging work, global work experience, career development opportunity, stable company, diligent upper management
Cons
Management are one point are introducing too many ideas at the the same time, cause confusion. Some of the mid to top level positions are taken by Germans.
