    I have been working at BB&T full-time

    Pros

The Cons really outweigh the Pros but the company does have good people. Working here helped develop my skills as a professional but that is everywhere.

    Cons

Not really a company for millennials. Does not offer much flexibility. The company does not allow you to work from home when it makes sense much and there is not much opportunity for growth. BB&T is so far behind other banks on its systems also. It is 2014 and the bank's system are very outdated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let people work from home sometime and maybe millennials would be happy at this company.

I have been working at BB&T full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very fast paced meaning time goes by very fast. Very good experience with customer service.

    Cons

They classroom train you for a week to learn basics. Nothing you learn in this week will be relevant to your job. Then you hit the floor and expected to know what you are doing. Also, department policy states you must stay in the department for 18 months before you can take another job within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop classroom training

    Pros

Family oriented company. Big on people and community

    Cons

Going through a bit of identity crisis right now. Want to be a big bank but play by small bank rules...it doesn't work which clients recognize and it's stressful to employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on retaining good employees because a lot are leaving. If you're going to play with the big banking boys we need a new set of rules

    I worked at BB&T

    Pros

    - values based culture
    - community involvement is excellent, proud of employees volunteering
    - benefits are strong

    Cons

    - credit 100% runs the bank, and they're very arrogant thinking "they're better" than everyone else at managing risk
    - problem with credit comes from the top - it's good ole southern white boys... if you don't belong to the fraternity, your opinion doesn't mean anything.
    - regional leadership is quick to micro-manage, yet no one holds the credit officers accountable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - the 1990's called, they said they'd like their corporate politics back.... Lose the credit arrogance, mix up the guys at the top and actually execute on being a big bank as opposed to "by balance sheet only"
    - either commit to middle-market space or don't, but stop blowing all the overhead on commercial lending personnel if you're not going to do real commercial lending.
    - merge with Suntrust, Comerica, 5/3rd, or better yet get acquired by PNC or USB. It would be a whole lot better for everyone.

if the bank can't figure out how to retain young employees or innovative employees, you're cooked. You'll go the way of the buggy cart and steam ship.

    - Management needs to come up for air and take it easy on the firehose of BB&T kool-aid. The BB&T faithful need to think beyond their kool-aid soaked perceptions and actually value the opinions of outsiders new to BB&T.

    I worked at BB&T

    Pros

Winston Salem is a small town, so everything is close to headquarters.

    Cons

Management is spending money like its water. There is a definite problem to be promoted past a mid manager level if you don't originate in the LDP. Culture presentations via postings and quarterly video's was nice to hear, but I didn't see it lived up to.

    Pros

They are a strong and stable bank. Well known in the market with a good reputation among business owners. They can typically beat competition on rates.

    Cons

The technology is from the 80's. Limited promotion, very much tied to being in the right place at the right time. It can be difficult to get credit officers to think outside the box unless they have seen it dozens of times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest in technology and people

I have been working at BB&T

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good! There even better if you are signed up for the Peak Health program. The vacation package would be better if you could buy days again.

    Cons

Management is non existent! People (employees) walk all over you. There is no room for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get managers with a backbone and a fair head on their shoulders. .

    I worked at BB&T full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The employees that I worked with were one of the great benefits of working at BB&T. Allowed for opportunities to grow and develop in your career path by providing some internal and external training. Benefits were great.

    Cons

Decisions should be made based on facts, not politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not put individuals in leadership or manager roles that know nothing about the specific type of business.
