    Pros

BB&T has exceptional benefits, treats their employees well and genuinely cares about giving back to the community.

    Cons

You typically do a job for 2-ish years before you are appropriately compensated for it.

    I worked at BB&T full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

BB&T offers top-notch training for employees. Pay for mid-to-high-level positions is somewhat competitive, though not enough to compensate for sub-par job location in many instances. Opportunities for growth abound, both within departments and inter-departmentally. Annual reviews are thorough (sometimes to a fault). Promotions are, for the most part, based on skills and performance. Training and experience gained at BB&T are easily transferable to other financial institutions.

    Cons

Corporate headquarters are in Winston-Salem, so the company loses many qualified high performers due to desired relocation. There is obvious and pervasive promotional preference given to graduates of the highly-valued (internally, at least) Leadership Development Program. The Company constantly creates new positions based on particular projects, which are often ambiguous and poorly defined. Freedom of thought is stifled, and team members who question processes or management are often stifled in their career growth (rather than commended for thinking outside the "BB&T Box"). Employees with a proven track record are often able to find comparable or higher-level positions with other financial institutions, often for significantly higher pay (pro for individuals, con for BB&T).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

BB&T does a phenomenal job of indoctrinating employees into the corporate culture and values. E-level management is impressive and seems to have a finger on the pulse of the Organization. However, the siloed department structure can create an environment in which team members are unable to communicate or voice unfiltered feedback to multiple chains of command.

I have been working at BB&T full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

This is a company that is very profitable but has unfortunate suffered at the hands of government regulations. Regardless, it is very well managed and continues to thrive in even a down economy. The people are very nice, great work atmosphere, great opportunities to advance, pay is good, and the training is excellent.

    Cons

For those on the lower end of the corporate ladder, advancement is difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within and provide necessary training, rather than hiring experienced outside people. I understand why you do it that way, but foster a culture where employees truly grow within BB&T.

    Pros

The bank has a great culture and benefits package. Upper management supports the vision and culture of the bank. Great place to work.

    Cons

While the culture is certainly wonderful, it can be viewed as fairly conservative (which is not uncommon in the banking industry).

I have been working at BB&T full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Depends on your manager. New Bank org chart came out beginning of January 2014 so maybe all employees will be included in same retirement benefits and opportunities.

    Cons

Not all employees get the pension. Many do and they assume everyone else does. In my 10 employee team everyone else including my manager had better retirement benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inequity in pay & promotions between BB&T Bank and BB&T Investments and BB&T Securities appears political.

I worked at BB&T as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Really care about employees; good, solid, stable company, exciting work; generous time off and other benefits including employee banking perks

    Cons

Exceedingly conservative; small-town values and office locations might turn off some employees; some aspects of banking might be "boring" to those looking for exciting or fast-paced work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
