Pros
Flexible schedule, management was laid back. We would receive certain contests in order to motivate in which case the overall morale of the
Cons
High standards that were sometimes impossible to reach with poor number of clients walking through the door. Some gossip which occurs everywhere
Advice to Senior Management
This was the Flatiron store so it is a huge store. The numbers required to meet for each sales associate were sometimes impossible due to the number of people working at a time and not many people walking into the store.
Pros
Looks good on resume
Good way to network
Cons
Not the friendliest people
No morale in the office
Pros
I appreciate that my coworkers are (for the most part) all very bright, industrious, and easy to work with. Everyone below the upper management level wants to do right by their people and control employee turnover.
Birthdays and holidays are celebrated with gusto - your coworkers really become great friends and everyone gets along since they're all so close in age.
Although office morale is much lower than it should be, there's a strong sense of solidarity in that everyone's basically miserable and so you don't feel singled out.
Cons
Aside from the low pay and toxic dynamic between the senior managers (they fight amongst themselves frequently), BCBG is a very stressful place to work for reasons that need to be addressed if the company is actually serious about being competitive in today's marketplace.
The systems are incredibly outdated - I've read bad reviews about other retailers' systems and I have to say that they can't be worse than what you'll see here. More time is spent retrieving data and printing reports than gleaning insight and making informed decisions. Systems are constantly crashing/running slowly and it can take IT many hours to correct...but you'll still be expected to adhere to the same deadlines. Time management is very difficult due to the lack of autonomy over one's schedule: every project is a high priority and employees are expected to say "yes" to any additional task handed down to them regardless of how much value it contributes.
Hierarchy is much too bottom-heavy and as a result management is out of touch with much of what's going on. Sr. Management does NOT communicate the corporate vision or direction so there's no real sense of a "big picture" within the company and thus a lot of fragmented business strategies between divisions. Pay is too low to attract top talent at bottom levels and so they have to hire from the outside to fill positions that require experience but can't afford/retain the external talent necessary to be successful here.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in the technology that would allow lighter hiring at the entry level and increased overall productivity. Do NOT decrease entry level salaries; $4k a year is nothing to a Sr. Executive but it means a lot to someone fresh out of college and HR should be ashamed of themselves for not noticing or challenging that decision.
Keep the cronyism to a minimum and focus on hiring talented individuals who can do the most good, not the most work. Access to information is too silo'ed - get a mainframe set up for data capture and reporting so that we can focus on driving the business instead of copy/pasting together massive and repetitive reports.
Pros
Great name on your resume.
Cons
-Located in the industrial part of LA.
-CEO not familiar with senior designers in the company.
-No coffee/break room...well, there is a cafeteria and it's not well ventilated.
-Lots of bureaucracy.
Advice to Senior Management
Please offer better benefits and bonuses for better employee retention.
Pros
Looks good on your resume
Cons
Salary is awful
The environment is pitiful
Their consistent fighting is annoying
And everything else about the company...
Advice to Senior Management
Actually mentor your associates and create a positive atmosphere.
Pros
They'll take a chance on someone with a short resume, mostly due to the fact that rate of pay is so low.
Cons
Toxic corporate culture, complete disorganization, my support staff went without being paid sometimes for weeks at a time, vendors were not getting paid
Advice to Senior Management
There is a pretty strong disconnect in corporate's understanding that it is those in the field that need to be supported since we are paying your bills
Pros
Fun environment, relaxed and friendly associates and management. Depending on which location you work, you have the potential to make a lot of money. Very demanding job in terms of hours and concentration but makes it all the more rewarding. Great discount packages from season to season. Management provides great support, feedback, and praise.
Cons
A lot of staff turnover due to the high workload that's demanded. Very outdated computer system. Takes forever to receive more supplies and stock. The hourly pay is quite low unless you demand higher, rarely get raises. If you let the higher management throw you around and use you in hope of advancement don't hold your breath, they only promote based on time at the company and exceptional results.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep being positive and energize your staff, it creates a better morale. It always helps to treat your staff with respect and listen to their feedback. If you encourage team selling and competitiveness with other locations you'll get the results you want.
Pros
Great discounts, great clothes, great people.
Cons
Operating systems are too outdated.
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication from corporate. Ontime deliverers of visual elements. Update pos system and cut out all the unnecessary paperwork that is outdated.
Pros
well known company in the industry
Cons
compensation, disorganization, and overall unprofessional
Advice to Senior Management
communication is key... employees need to be advised of going's on within the company
Pros
Employee discount, fellow coworkers understand what you are going through which is helpful. Even if you may not like someone there's a chance they may leave because turnover is high.
Cons
Company morale is quite low which makes going to work a chore. Having to shuttle from the workplace to your parking lot doesn't help.
