I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very good work culture and effective training tools available to all employees.

    Cons

Vacation bid process is inefficient and needs to be re-worked as instructions and feedback are very unclear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please consider re-vamping the vacation bid process so that employees with less than 5 year seniority may be able to get more than 1 or 2 days off in a row to facilitate famiily vacations and other responsibilites.

I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are probably better than comparable companies. Virtual agents have more flexibility than office staff.

    Cons

Micromanaging. Feels like I am in 3rd grade and afraid of being sent to time-out. You are monitored every minute.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the front line agents do what they are best at. Stop making them waste valuable time on reports and logs and programs that are useless. And stop showing favoritism to the office staff.

I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They appear to care about work life balance and allow a lot of virtual work in most departments. Health care is pretty good considering other items about the company. A lot of good people -

    Cons

Low salaries, terrible 401K and pretty weak vacation. I sometimes wonder about the ethics of this company - they really drink their own kool-aid when it comes to believing how wonderful they are. Considering the salary structure you would think the workload would not be as high as it is. Expectations are very, very high - almost unrealistic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and invest in technology a bit more. Stop convincing yourselves that middle management, in most cases and Sr. Mgmt in some cases really get how to work with employee's. Just become someone is great at something doesn't mean they are a leader and should lead people!

    Pros

Pay is ok, benefits are ok.

    Cons

Upper mgmt has not seen what their front line employees do in years. They are completely detached and celebrate people who cover not workers who care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure it out before you loose all the business you just bought. You are going in circles because your completely out of touch ith your business. It's a shame the potential is there but you just don't care.

I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company at the highest levels has a sound base and strategic outlook. As a privately held company they have flexibility that isn't seen in public companies and you can tell they really do care about things.

    Cons

The translation is lost in middle management and the companies ability to deliver on their 'development' and 'people' opportunities. Some of this may be symptomatic of the industry. A true global outlook is needed w/in the company. Pay is really below average and if you want to have ANY opportunity for advancement you really need to get on the client facing side of the business - at least you can get a 'title' and take that to other companies for leverage. Very title heavy with client-facing positions. Very, very slow to offer opportunities and develop their people - a lot of talk but no solid action.

Do NOT expect to make much money unless you are able to come in at a high salary and position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay disparity between 'titled' positions and others. Middle Mgmt just doesn't get what it takes to develop people - on the same hand, upper mgmt needs to commit the resources to this and sometimes those resources are simply not cutting your staffing to the bare bones!

I worked at BCD Travel full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Basic benefits, nothing different or better.

    Cons

Very poor management, no communication with Team Leaders who in turn fail to advise agents.
Favoritism abundant with Team Leaders. Time management sets unrealistic guidelines that don't allow agents to support inbound client phone calls properly. Agents are required to be at their desks and logging into all apps on their own time and if not signed into their phones at the second their shift starts they are punished for each SECOND they are late. (Employees are given a stop watch) All benefits and required paperwork must also be done on your own time. Lastly they pick and choose what expenses you get reimbursed on so if you work from home beware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your worker bees. They know what the clients expectations are and travel professionals.. not children in need of babysitters

I have been working at BCD Travel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company has been around a long time, doesnt take much to outperform others so job security is there. Pretty flexible with hours. Very large company, so advancement opportunities are there.

    Cons

If you're good at your job, that is not to advance. Managment overlooks the wallflowers. Sometimes advancement seems to show favoritism. Pay is low compared to regional average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more proactive in rewarding good employees. Some managers need training on how to be less mico managers.

    Pros

Nice office, good teamwork, GREAT travel perks. (IATAN Card)

    Cons

Not all managers want to be managers. If you have a different personality than you manager, their may be conflict or you might be disappointed in how well the two of you can connect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Explain the expenses of running a business to the employees,so they understand WHY they are paid what they receive.
