    Pros

The medical plan is pretty decent, so are the pto and holidays. Besides that, everything else is down the drain.

    Cons

Putting it lightly, professionalism does not even exist. A lot of politics and back stabbing. Managers who are incompetent and hold work till the last minute. The word communication does not even exist. Managers talk in such an aggressive tone as if they are your mortal enemies. The management does not care about these things as long as the clients are still there. Promotion only exist if you threaten to leave

    Advice to Management

There is a corporate governance section in the BEC part of the CPA exam which talks about tone at the top. The management should really consider reading it.

    Pros

They have made a real effort to staff up the tax group recently and this past busy season was made much more doable than in the past as a result. Management seems to have a clear vision of where they want to take the firm in the next few years and has made real progress recently. Not the Big 4 in a good way - Partners know your name, understand that you have other options and treat you as someone who adds value to the company. Good camaraderie among staff- if someone is getting overloaded others will try to help if they can.

    Cons

Doesn't have name recognition outside the financial world. Exit opportunities not quite what you can get when moving on from Big 4. Pay seems to be lagging behind competitors a bit.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

    Pros

The firm will pay a nice base salary and the work is very basic. If you are white/male you will do fine in this firm. Not much complex work. Can leave by 6pm.

    Cons

Highly prejudiced environment. Partners making fun of foreign employees and other BDO professionals from other countries. No cooperation between groups. Abrasive behavior, name calling, vulgarities by partners.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at yourselves - you are white only executive management in an era of diversity, multicultural, global business. Modernize your firm. Open your minds to other people's ideas.

    Pros

Great colleagues, support and, family atmosphere. Better work life balance than big 4 forms, better pay, better attitude. Less seasonality. Working hours are about 50-55 hours, very rarely weekends, drops to 40-50 in off season. (Big 4 would be 60-90 hours, 40 in off season) Smaller clients means more exposure to different areas if a single audit at lower levels.

    Cons

Not a big 4 firm (in terms of contribution to career) Some of the clients are riskier than you'd get at big 4 firms
