    Pros

The size of the company and the depth of resources that BDO offers sets it apart from large regional firms. For the fifth largest accounting and consulting services firm in the world, the culture in my office feels more like a smaller firm with a focus on flexibility, employee retainment, and development. No matter what your long term career goals are, you will be able to find and connect with mentors to help you succeed. I have worked at several different firms in my career and BDO offers the best mix of big firm resources and a true focus on people. In no way do I feel like "just a number".

    Cons

As with any large firm, the challenge of inter-office staff sharing, travel requirements, and retaining millenials is present. The work is challenging and sometimes strenuous but the firm is actively promoting "day-to-day flex" to help professionals sprint and recover.

    Advice to Management

Maintain a focus on organic growth as well as through M&A. Everyone I have been in contact with at a management level is very bright, insightful, and seems to care about the employees but to grow too big, too fast may be a challenge.

    Pros

The pay, benefits and PTO are good and competitive

    Cons

Partners and exec mgmt. in this firm hate each other. Lots of bickering, rude comments, arguments between the old-timers - staff and middle mg t is caught in the middle of this sniper fire. Too much focus on acquiring little 3rd class accounting firms. The result is a lot of new people who have no professional expertise or public company experience. A collection of misfit firms with rude, rowdy "partners" who think they deserve gold medals. Nobody cares about lower levels.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at your core values and try to really live by them. Posters and videos don't cut it. Build a truly good firm by removing the bad apples and only bringing in good, smart, caring mgmt.

    Pros

    Great people, sense of family,

    Cons

Low pay, which contributes to low morale

    Advice to Management

Don't be surprised to see people leaving as the pay is too low to afford rent in the bay area.

    Pros

The pay levels were fair and workloads were reasonable

    Cons

Company has a new CEO who is preaching new core values. But partners don't care and don't want to change, they have no incentive to change. Most senior mgmt. is out of touch with market realities, don't understand what employees care about. No career development opportunity. Client meetings are embarrassing as partners lack social skills or expertise in their subject or industry.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to look in the mirror and practice what it preaches or watch the firm die. CEO needs to take action and fire old-timers.

    Pros

Good people to work with. Compensation is compatible with industry standards. Benefits are also comparable with industry standards. Good training modules

    Cons

Grew a little too big too fast. A lot of growing pains incorporating other offices into current ones that didn't seem like everything was thought through completely , no real work life balance

    Pros

The medical plan is pretty decent, so are the pto and holidays. Besides that, everything else is down the drain.

    Cons

Putting it lightly, professionalism does not even exist. A lot of politics and back stabbing. Managers who are incompetent and hold work till the last minute. The word communication does not even exist. Managers talk in such an aggressive tone as if they are your mortal enemies. The management does not care about these things as long as the clients are still there. Promotion only exist if you threaten to leave

    Advice to Management

There is a corporate governance section in the BEC part of the CPA exam which talks about tone at the top. The management should really consider reading it.
