Pros
nice place to work for techiqs
Cons
same line of work for the last 10 years
Advice to Senior Management
got bought out by Oracle
Pros
Found that people followed through on their commitments and treated each other with respect.
Cons
It was a smaller company struggling to grow to the next level and there were some hard choices that had to be made for that to happen.
Pros
Everyone at BEA Systems was very smart and motivated to be the best in the industry and beat the competition.
Cons
In it's efforts to cut costs, the company had under funded the products that drove the bulk of its revenues.
Pros
Great employees, great company, overall a great experience in a very successful company that consisted of intelligent engineers and overall staff of Executives who made right decisions.
Cons
The only issues that the company had was that a lot of people got tied up in complaining about not very significant issues.
Advice to Senior Management
Unfortunately no advice is necessary for the leadership at BEA Systems as it was acquired by Oracle in 2008 and all the individuals were either laid off or transfered on to Oracle
Pros
Great people worked there, senior management was a little challenged though
Good money, great technology
Cons
Lots of great people left
Pros
Pockets of innovation exist but are not integrated well
Cons
strategic dither among senior leaders
Advice to Senior Management
Consistency of strategy
Pros
You get to work on cool new toys like Fighter jets and feed your curiosity of how things are made.
Cons
A lot of back stabbing between employees. Make up stories to get each other sacked and even though the management new this nothing is being done to stop this menace in the workplace.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't just take one employee's word as a golden truth but thoroughly investigate the matter and actively put a stop to malicious defamation of character when these accusations are found to be falsified.
Pros
- some of the leadership team and employees are great people to work with
Cons
- Finance carried a tremendous amount of power, which is not what a s/w company needs
- Sales and Marketing had very little power, causing the company to build products and services that don't fit customer needs well
- Not a customer-focused company
- Since the company was struggling to grow revenues, there was little opportunity for advancement
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on the customer and empower Sales and Marketing to do their jobs. Stop giving Finance the head seat at the table.
Pros
Great technology stack which is industry leading.
Cons
Sadly Plumtree technology was left behind due to BEA forcing the two companies to still compete for customers against each other. Terrible to have an invisible line down the office separating the staff of each company.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to integrate the two companies better. BEA has a wonderful stack of technology in the middleware area.
Pros
Tight knit groups with focus on doing things right and doing things well. We worked hard and we played hard. Very motivating environment.
Cons
Although it still had much of that start-up mentality tenure seemed to be more important than competency near the end of the company's life. As Oracle drew nearer things became much more desperate, much less team oriented.
Advice to Senior Management
CEO lacked focus outside of himself. Great Executive Leadership team despite CEO's lack of ability to lead. He knew how to spend money, but making it was a bit beyond him.
