I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people at BJ's were nice, but many were jaded. Free Membership. They pay well for the work that is required.

    Cons

The longer people worked there, the more jaded they became. Because it's such a large company, you can often feel like a small cog in the machine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the people that don't want to work there.

I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club

    Pros

Strong company performance. Supportive management structure from the top down. Great atmosphere. Growing market- many new clubs continuously growing and expanding throughout the country.

    Cons

Compensation starts low- if you want to make money with this company you will need to follow suit of many upper managers and change jobs once you have the experience. If you are promoted from within, don't expect to get paid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keeping costs low may help keep people coming back to your clubs, but make sure you retain the good help that drives the company.

I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club

    Pros

Very little is expected of employees there. One is able to do the bare minimum and skate by. In my 2 years there, I averaged about 15 min worth of work each day. I was able to put in my time, then leave at 5pm and not think about work again until the morning. Extremely low stress.

    Cons

Direct manager had no real management skills or training. I regularly asked for more work and responsibility and it was never given to me even though the little work I did do, was done perfectly. It seemed this was because no one wanted to take the time to train and/or let others know how little they actually do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come out of the executive suite once in a while and talk to your employees. You might see what is really going on for one.

I worked at BJ's Wholesale Club

    Pros

Some great people at BJs. Once you find you niche, you can really do well there. They do take care of good employees. The comapny seemes to be here for a wile, and does well through all economic conditions. If you work hard, they will reocgnize you. If you are not a good fit, they are willing to transition you to another function or toatlly new department.

    Cons

PLace is very cheap, and the salary is just OK. Bonus plan seemed very weak. They work the way their stores are, cuting corners and being very frugle. Management seems to be above the third tier employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would try to do a better job of setting goals, and communicating them to the company. Not everyone was sure of their eole, and how it fit into the big pitcure.
