I have been working at BJC HealthCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits package is great, my schedule is flexible, networking is great, large company, diverse population, lots of healthcare research being done at Wash U/BJH

    Cons

Management (they have no idea how to do anything but chase QI numbers that some businessperson sets with no input from actual healthcare workers), staffing, employee turnover, pay is just ok

    Advice to Management

Hire candidates for management who have both a degree and experience in the field they will be managing.

I worked at BJC HealthCare full-time

    Pros

Great people and overall good work environment. Very good personal growth opportunitues.

    Cons

Way understaffed. They have fallen into the economic bubble of many companies in that you have one person working on multiple projects at the same time and each of those PM's getting upset with the amount of time dedicated to "their" project. There are a significant number of middle managers, this number should be cut drastically. Most I ever dealt with would too often reject anything that contradicts with their own agenda.

    Advice to Management

Cut your middle level management crew down significantly and hire more resources that do the actual work.

    Pros

Good benefits, pay is decent, fairly laid back environment.

    Cons

Not enough appreciation for employees. If you're good at your job, they will expect more from you than any other peers, yet come raise time - everyone gets the same amount.

    Pros

Great people to work with. They care about you at work and personally. They recognize your talent and give you opportunity to advance. Good benefits. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

Slow pace in the office. Lack of transparency on financials and management, some managers were not entirely honest either. Communication to the top could be time consuming due to many gates.

    Pros

Excellent health insurance. Directors that are in position are good and knowledgable at what they do, especially on the non-patient care side (finance, revenue cycle management)

    Cons

There are some managers and supervisors in place that continuously bring the company down whether it be through bad hiring decisions, gossiping about their employees to other employees, or not understanding how their employees do their day to day to functions which would seem pretty important since it's their job to manage and lead them through it. I don't think I've ever worked for a group of people as unprofessional as I do right now.

I worked at BJC HealthCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance and benefits, engaged leadership at the manager and director level

    Cons

No employee development program. Despite several very positive employee reviews, receiving an advanced degree through a BJC program, and reaching out to people to try to recieve assistance with growing my career, I was not able to find a new role within the organization when the time came. I ended up having to look outside of the company (and eventually ended up at another healthcare company in StL), which was very dissappointing to me. I wish I would have been able to grow my career with BJC.

    Advice to Management

Develop a better program to help advance your employees. You are losing many good people at the current time. Also, tuition reimbursement is a great benefit for your employees, but it is not being utilized well by BJC right now. When you are paying for someone to get a Master's degree, I would think it would be in the company's best interest to sit down with that individual and talk about how BJC can benefit from it.
