A great place if you want to be underpaid and overworked for the rest of your life.

    Audit Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

ProsThis is a good place to start in public accounting for a year or two to gain some experience, but if you have ambition, energy and skills you will quickly learn that your skills and energy will only be used to make the partners rich while you work your rear end off. There is a lot of propaganda about it being a Best Place to Work and on and on. Hilarious.

ConsThe only people that matter at BKD is the partners. It's all about partner compensation and earnings. The benefits are terrible. Morale was terrible. I saw many talented and ambitious people leave the firm.

It's a place of the haves and have nots. If you're a partner, you're a "have" and if you are a manager, senior manager, or staff you are a "have not." Leaving BKD was a good decision. The work environment is political and not based on merit or a person's contributions to client service, engagement realization or technical assets. I have never worked so hard for so little.

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is not worth my energy.

    Cannot be trusted!!!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

    ProsGood work life balance.
    Some nice people

ConsPoor and very subjective evaluations/ feedback. Most of evaluations were on very petty matters.
Promotions not based on achievements but more on office politics
Some of management not quite supportive
    Cannot be trusted!
Lots of lay offs in recent past
Some management lack people skills and proper managerial skills.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry and appreciate your people more and not treat them like property to be disposed off.

    Good Job

    Staff Accountant (Current Employee)
    Indianapolis, IN

ProsThe hours are ok, the pay is comparable to other accounting firms and the staff are great to work with.

ConsThe benefits need to be improved to be comparable to other firms. No 401k match your first two years. Medical/Dental/Vision premiums are pretty high. The company only covers 50% of the premiums. No bonus for passing the CPA exam.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is good.

    Decent place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsBKD is a decent place to work. They will accommodate flexible schedules and they have an annual review process that seems to work well. The partners and managers (most of them) have a large knowledge base and are very consciences about following the law.

ConsBe prepared to work hard. The partners can be pretty demanding when deadlines are near. There are also some strange personalities, but for the most part other employees are friendly and fun.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure that everyone follows the rules.

    Conservative CPA firm review

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Colorado Springs, CO

ProsGood advancement opportunities with easy access to upper management. The ability to take on projects that would not otherwise be available until further years of experience.

ConsThe health benefits were very limiting and costly based on similar firms in the area as well as very small clients in remote locations

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide additional avenues for employees to address concerns with staff/management. Review the benefits guidance that employees receive to be on par with similar sized firms

Satisfactory experience is useful for career stepping stone.

    Staff (Current Employee)
    Colorado Springs, CO

ProsThey are a nationally recognized firm that has the resources to let you flourish technically.

ConsLimited career development. Promotions are not really based on performance but on how long you have been there.

Advice to Senior ManagementCronyism is bad.
