    Pros

There are some talented, bright employees at BMC. Lots of opportunity to work extremely hard. Good location and free drinks - that is about it!

    Cons

Constant layoffs regardless of employee ability and dedication. Serial reorganizations without thinking through a strategic long term plan. Lack of cohesive strategy at the top and no wonder private equity took over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All assets and attention are focused on the sales organization and support groups are only a necessary mechanism and are treated as such. The external reputation of BMC as a sweatshop and serial restructurer is fully supported based on what I have experienced. There is no opportunity for advancement unless you are a certain gender/race (yes, this is called discrimination). There is no employee development. The negative reputation you have generated in Houston is valid. The Bain comedy skit at the 2015 annual kick off meeting demonstrated exceptionally poor taste when you are in the midst of laying off even more employees.

    Pros

Salary, co- workers, past history as a fantastic employer (but that is long over).

    Cons

Only one pay raise in five years, despite high achievements and annual reviews. Horrible Vice President. Constantly changed his mind, and then acted like his "underlings" were just stupid and had not understood what he wanted. A capricious, Machiavellian slave driver to work for.

An expectation that Employees's must drop everything and live, breathe, and never sleep for BMC's benefit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None, I don't think they have mental capacity or humanity to care what I would have to say to them.

    Pros

Great work life balance, great people. Co-workers and mangers who generally care about your growth and career path. Great global presence and teamwork.

    Cons

Sometimes it seemed a little too big and hard to get answers. Some shake up with the company going private.

    Pros

I'm struggling here to find one.

    Cons

If you get acquired by BMC start looking for a new job. It will be just a matter of time before you are gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more caring about the people who contribute to your fat paychecks and stop terminating people who work hard and count on their jobs.

    Pros

Work hours are somewhat flexible along with opportunity to work from home. Lots of talented co-workers. Performance based bonus pay.

    Cons

Since buyout there have been rounds of layoffs. There is a huge talent vacuum happening as developers either jump ship to other organizations or get laid off. Compensation is slightly below market average, and now that the company is private there is no stock option.

Former Employee - Account Manager (Sales)  in  San Diego, CA
Former Employee - Account Manager (Sales) in San Diego, CA

    Pros

Great technology, benefits, and pay is market value. Have a good install base and receive a large revenue stream from that. Made very good acquisitions over the years buying best of breed technology. Market leader in certain sectors.

    Cons

The strategy is where there is no direction, growth is flat, and talent level has dissipated as roles aren't clearly defined and management is on a turntable as they are attempting to do more with less. Privately held after long stint as a public company aka the beginning of the end, the ship is slowly sinking. Wouldn't be shocked if a larger more nimble company bought the pieces eventually. Tons of complacent workers happy collecting a check. New customers are hard to obtain and lots of customers leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management used to be amazing as you had long time industry leaders from the big software companies guiding the ship. Now you have glorified field reps running territories with no mgt experience. Pay is competitive but competition is offering much more. Also no equity = no long term plans.

Current Employee - Business Systems Management (BSM) Architect  in  Detroit, MI
Current Employee - Business Systems Management (BSM) Architect in Detroit, MI

    Pros

    Good facilities, average benefits,
Great Offshore teams. Senior management pretty effective at solving product issues.
Very good focus on customers during pursuit phase, Indian business and technical management are second to none.

    Cons

Middle Management too reactive, Mixed bag of consultant quality and people skills,
Services ( PMO, Portfolio managers, "Global" delivery managers...) unprepared and forced to play "hot potato" trying to bury rework costs and impact of fixing poorly tested software.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline middle management ( eliminate - don't just shuffle the deck)
Invest in QA to improve our software. Develop better training for consultants.
Ramp up PS delivery managers with basic functional and technical product training.
