    Senior Account Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThey are very organized, well marketed and have a robust product offering. They understand what works and are willing to build on it

ConsAudit and Legal rule the roost. They almost trip on themselves and getting anything done requires too much red tape.

    Bait, Switch.

Financial Planner, Investment & Retirement Planning (Former Employee)
    Indianapolis, IN

ProsThe branch level folks are great to work with, by and large.. but there is distinct silo-ing between bank and broker, thanks to the removal of incentives to refer.

ConsVery little seasoned support in the field so I work way too many hours. Back office is miserable to work with with few exceptions, as the good ones were tossed out in the merger. Salaries went away when BMO came to town. I have to pay out of pocket for managed money client account processing (MONTHLY!). $10 per client, per month. 100 clients... $12,000 out of my poicket per year... AND take my salary away? Really? See ya.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe straightforward. Don't sugar coat. Don't be so greedy. INVEST in your FA's... maybe some formal sales training to keep the talent growing in practice and compliant.

    Changed for the worse

    Personal Banker (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsThe health insurance is relatively inexpensive and vacation benefits are pretty good, hours are convenient for the employees.

ConsTechnology still not up to par, manager's know less than the employees, sales goals are unrealistic and the products are changing for the worse and making it harder to recommend

Advice to Senior ManagementStep into the shoes of your employees and see how overwhelmed they are with all of your unrealistic expectations and goals given the technology and products available. We are trying but we need more support!

Disappointing and terribly confusing company to work for.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Milwaukee, WI

    ProsGood Pay and
    Good Benefits

ConsPoor direction and communication from Management
    Outdated Technology
Overworked - no help provided when there is too much work

Advice to Senior ManagementDo not ignore your employees when they ask simple questions like "where do I fit in and what role is expected of me". Your empolyees cannot meet you expectations if they have not clue what they are, Please Communicate!!!!!
Provide better resources to assist employees in getting an impossible workload manageable. Good people will continue to leave you without these changes.

Since the transition of M&I and BMO, I have had all positive experiences.

    Credit Analyst (Current Employee)
    Phoenix, AZ

ProsBMO has a very sound background for their Commercial Banking teams. There is a reason why M&I failed and BMO came in to take over the company. I can definitely see BMO implementing some profitable ideas into the old M&I standards which will bring in new profitable business.

ConsThe only downside that I have experienced with BMO is the corporate structure, being so large, can make the recruiting and hiring process a lengthy one.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep your same conservative approach and backgrounds but trust the employees to go out and do their best to bring in new business.

    ProsGood work environment
Good compensation packages (401k, pension, insurance, ect)
    Professional co-workers
    Ability to "move up"
Lots of opportunity to provide value

ConsNeed more communication from Canada about the US
Need direction from managment on the future of legacy M&I bank employees

    Great company, big challenges

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsBMO is committed to diversity, great customer experience, and fairness to employees. There is tremendous opportunity for advancement at more junior levels in both the US and Canada.

ConsMore and more decision making is being done in Toronto, leaving those in the US with little chance to impact the company. Decision making is frustratingly slow and prone to reversal if full concensus can't be obtained. Very little recognition of the competitive nature of the US market; BMO only sees the other Canadian banks as competitors, and those banks cooperate more than compete. Top US employees have limited career advancement opportunities unless they move to Toronto.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs BMO continues to expand in the US more decisions will need to be delegated to those who run that market. Canadian banking is not like US banking, and BMO must learn that lesson soon to succeed. Speed and conviction will be important to BMOs future. BMO can't please everyone and must make hard choices about what is most important- both internally and externally.
