Pros
BMW has a lot of great opportunities that allow college graduates to get an early experience to te real world with real tiime assignments
Cons
one of the most important things to remember is to be prepared for the interview and know what you are talking about specifically with the job one has applied for
Pros
Good socialising
Good pay
Friendly Office environment
Cons
No proper communication between employees and management
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your employees
Pros
They have wonderful benefits and keep bringing new things to the table that surprise everyone.
Cons
A lot of self-learning. Employers (in my dept at least) may or may not be familiar with the content you are working with (all programming related) and therefore a lot of the times cannot help you with specific questions.
Advice to Senior Management
Perhaps have weekly meets to discuss the progress on projects and give employees a chance to elaborate on problems they've come across or accomplishments they have been able to achieve.
Pros
Pride in your work
Great benefits package including car lease program, 401k and pension
Competitive pay
Interesting work
Opportunity to implement changes
Cons
Mostly Germans in senior management doing a short rotation in the US before moving on somewhere else. Americans are not unheard of in senior management just not as many as it seems there should be.
No design work is done in the US, entirely manufacturing.
Pros
Generous uniforms, lease program is okay, co-workers are great!
Cons
WAY too much conflict with other departments - very hostile environment. Compensation is not the best. Automotive has no future. No managers have a degree or advanced degrees which is very sad considering the product. Very top heavy - at least one salary employee for every hourly employee. Product is not the most innovative considering the 'old' big three have had similar technology for years. A LOT of micro-management from Germany and managers in general. Too many managers and not enough workers. Everyone wants to report problems but no one wants to be part of the solution.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop hiding behind your prestigous brand and start treating people like people instead of dogs!
Pros
The Employee lease program is generous
Cafeteria offers food of acceptable quality at an affordable price
Safety is a primary concern
Cons
Close German oversight does not allow for the "American Way"
Dirty Bathrooms where tours are not taken
Dangerous place to work
Do not want to invest money into employees
Strict about time (lunches) but generally require salaried employees to work a lot of uncompensated overtime
Advice to Senior Management
Stop running the plant like it is in Germany, it isn't. The pay and benefits are not competitive, stop hiding behind your prestigious brand and step up to the plate as an employer.
Pros
nice perks (cars, holidays, health care)
Cons
automobile industry has no future
Advice to Senior Management
keep it up
Pros
Magnificent product and great communication at what is comming up next. Great previews of up-comming models before even magazines and journalists.
Cons
Limited flexibility on some aspects of the information flow. Some issues are not perceived by managers and piers even when obvious.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve middle management communication to piers and subordinates.
Pros
Car program is fantastic. Benefits have been great, but have been slashed now.
Cons
Since many manager positions are slated as German only, these are 3 year contract positions, so a lack of consistency. Every three years there is a new direction, from someone who needs time to adjust to the culture change. The way it's done in Germany doesn't work everywhere. Lack of true innovation, so if you're a trailblazer you're wasting your time.
HR is a trainwreck, which causes repercussions at all levels.
Advice to Senior Management
Shake up HR & stop rotating management every 3 years.
Pros
Very good pay and benefits. The overall compensation package is one of the best in South Carolina and well within the industry standards
Cons
Too many politics between departments that slow down day to day business
Advice to Senior Management
Stand up to Germany. Start making and implementing decisions without second guessing!
