I have been working at BNP Paribas Asset Management full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    1. Cheaper Health Benefits - it because my employer is more generous,

    2. Employee Discounts - from the bank itself, from 4-5 different cell phone companies, museums, etc.
    3. Established Retirement Program - my company administered their own retirement program, so the money went in much quicker

    4. Easier to change jobs without changing companies - the main reason this is a benefit is if you have 401K money that needs to vest or a pension plan. I had several co-workers change jobs within the company.

    Cons

It is sometimes difficult to get things done because the company is so large. For example, getting software "pushed" to my work computer.

Biggest issue is corporate officers micromanage entirely too much

    LOTS of pointless meetings

LOTS of pointless graphs that are requested by corporate officers

No training for incoming employees. Have to seek it out on your own.

    Slow pay increase system

I worked at BNP Paribas Asset Management full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great People in General in the US. The benefits are really very good.

    Cons

French Management is Awful...the company can't seem to get out of its own way and seems to make decisions out of France without consulting the US too much. Systems are outdated and can't seem to speak to one another. Morale has been low for years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bringing in French or European management is ruining the US asset management business. They don't understand anything about running the asset management business in the US. The only thing they seem to do when they came into town was fire people and give bad news, so everyone greeted their arrival with dread.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Tampines New Town (Singapore)

I have been working at BNP Paribas Asset Management full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Impossible to get fired. Colleagues actively have group discussion. Management give a lot of room for employees to express themselves. Weekend is usually free. Pay is stable

    Cons

Impossible to get fired: Turnover too fast and too much ( usually after bonus period) only left lower quality workers ( U will see some employee stuck for 10 years as an analyst ), most of the time they will just find ways to skive just to avoid work.

Group discussion topics: usually about other colleagues either gossips or complain, never about work.

Management allow us to express ourselves: They just cannot be bothered, usually it will be an war within the team with many days of planned MC against each other. Leadership is extremely weak ( if any). Usually when incident arises they will panick and start to find scapegoat (usually newcomers).

Reward (Bonus) is base on tenure rather than merits. Innovation is totally dead.

Things to note: Do not be shock if your superior or managers are not familiar with Microsoft suite or their scope of duties (Its very common). In fact, Do not be disappointed if your superior or managers does not know your contribution or performance.

Appraisal wise usually everyone gets the same score, so just do your minimum will be sufficient.

Weekend is usually free, while weekdays usually you work overtime till 8.30pm.

Pay is stable, but you start low and small increment of 2~2.5% annually. You will probably hit 4k/ month when you 40 reach years old if this is your first job.

Promotions are like picking vegetable in the market; random and easy ( Not based on performance, credentials or knowledge ). It's based on how good you are at sucking up to your boss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your company is a flop, go restructure yourself, many headcounts are redundant. Go learn from banks like Goldman Sach or J.P Morgan. Kindly change your BNP 5 core values, non of it is true.

I have been working at BNP Paribas Asset Management

    Pros

Stable Bank. No much work load.Perfect Work-life balance. Senior Management of good pedigree. Good Brand. Some of the best available talents in the market.

    Cons

30% below par Salaries than peer companies. Poor Health benefits. Family (Wife and Kids) not covered in Health Insurance. Poor Bonuses. Very poor Increments. 2%-3% max. Slow or no growth. Most of the managers are expat on expat packages. No scope for their growth results no growth for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to significantly improve the compensation and HR benefits else it will be difficult to retain good talent. Need to have a proper growth path.
