Former Employee – worked at BNP Paribas
Pros – great benefits and vacation. Pretty good place to work, many people have been there forever. Helps if you speak some French.
Cons – Glass ceiling, not great bonuses and, of course, some bias to French speaking people which is natural. Also, lots of politics
Advice to Senior Management – Overall, I think management, who has also been there forever, is doing the best he can given that his main role is to play concierge to the heads of the business lines coming through mostly from Paris or London.

Current Employee – been working at BNP Paribas
Pros – Nice vacation allowance, opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds, depending on your position, might have a chance to travel
Cons – No appreciation for your work, very political, need to have somebody in upper management who likes you to get any advancement, nobody cares about your opinions, how hard you work or how well, you need to play the political game to get anything
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees, treat everybody well, not only those who are French, provide better work environment for everybody, not just few chosen people

Former Employee – worked at BNP Paribas
Pros – At the company BNP Paribas, employees can expect fast promotions, great visibility to senior management staff, and equitable compensation based on merit.
Cons – The firm tends to be somewhat slower moving in making decisions than other firms on the street, both on the business side and on the HR side.
Advice to Senior Management – Enhance transparency for your employees such that they can understand the business strategy and how they fit within the greater context of your mission.

Current Employee – been working at BNP Paribas
Pros – Vacation days are above average. Year budget is relatively low than competitors (but has been increasing in the past 2 years).
Cons – Most of the employees are poorly paid. Only managers and top performers are paid above 70% of the money they should been paid. The rest--about 30% compared to workers in US banks with the same job. The bank has been running toward a wrong direction--what BNPP really need is to streamline their business and leverage their trading, IT and supporting functions but instead the management hired a lot of very expensive sales people in 2009/2010, leaving a monstrous sales force the bank can not really support. Pricing from the trading is still below average, client on-boarding takes months, market strategies are stubborn one-way bet, and the IT system is a joke.
Advice to Senior Management – BNPP should increase its payout ratio. Pay more to the people who has stayed long in the bank. Spend money on something that really counts--IT, RCM, onboarding, etc. Aiming at sustainable and balanced growth.

Pros – Good resources. Smart and ambitious people. Good for the resume. Flexible work hours. Make the most of it. Decent culture.
Cons – Low pay. Not much english. French dominate. You have to asskiss. Bonuses are not good. Not enough grils work there.
Advice to Senior Management – Make the place more enjoyable to work at. Have a better balance of english versus french speakers. Better compensation, including bonus.
