I worked at BNP Paribas Investment Partners full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

BNP Paribas bought us, lied then dumped us and treated the Chicago office like the red-headed step child. The whole experience was very disheartening overall.

    Cons

    The vacation policy was generous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I felt there wasn't any management that cared. To ask for help or clarification with the positions we were left with was pointless.

    Pros

Good benefits and hours of work. Social. flat management. Training opportunities.
My experience at BNP Paribas was a good one. Its a good place to work with nice people, good benefits, hours, very social, flat management. Opportunities for training and career progression if you want and push for it.

    Cons

Communication from management can be slow at times and requests not always carried out. Not much movement on salary increases over the years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more with staff. Listen to staff requests.

I worked at BNP Paribas Investment Partners as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Hrs are really good compared to other banks. But be aware that working in smaller teams means lots of tasks during the day as opposed to reading the news...if you know what i mean.

    Cons

Not much technical work to be done. Just pitching, pitching, and pitching...To be honest, not many banks in HK do much modeling work anyway...Oh btw they have piratically no deal happening..and seriously underpaid.

I worked at BNP Paribas Investment Partners

    Pros

Collaborative nature, fairly flat structure at the office I worked at. Decent hours and in general very knowledgeable people around.

    Cons

The higher up you get the more the need arises to speak French. IT infrastructure is VERY bad, the non-investment departments do not seem to be very flexible/helpful most of the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve IT infrastructure!

I worked at BNP Paribas Investment Partners full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Global opportunities and a wide range of product offerings. Some very talented people in various parts of the company. Reasonably well-known name, especially in Europe.

    Cons

Very poor management, especially senior management. Cannot conceive of a world outside the cozy club of French finance. The whole is much less than the sum of the parts. While there are some very talented people, they don't run the company, unfortunately.

    Pros

    - company encourages people to take opportunities to work in every corner of the world
    - pays for and encourages people to gain extra qualifications for career development

    Cons

    - not a "part of one family" culture.
    - poor communication between teams.
    - too many levels in its hierarchical management structure makes employees feel disconnected from senior management and thus the firm

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - invest more in employees
    - improve communication between employees and senior management
    - bring back a "team" environment
    - bring back even the most simple perks e.g. free FT newspaper
