    close to public transit options in NY

    Cons

    Some departments, including HR and Audit/Compliance do not follow whistleblower framework policies. In fact, several auditors have been terminated after discovering major compliance issues in US and latin america. Poor outlook for the parent holding company if these issues continue.

    There are several issues oh how the Jersey city branch is run. New employees are not regularly reported as new hires to NJ division of labor, and due to on-going reorganization, when there is a layoff, NJ has no record of your employment at BNP. Keeping in mind that they are moving hundreds of IT and operations jobs from NY/NJ to Montreal, this creates an issue.

    Good work and life balance, 35 days of vacations or so, generous 401k plan, grat people, very stable place

    Pros

    The only reason to work for BNP is if you're looking for the time off: 25 days annually for analysts and it goes up from there. Other than that....ummmm, errr....ahhhh...I'll get back to you. Actually, probably not.

    Cons

    Pay is laughable. However, since internal employee reviews of the company have all pointed to this as a huge negative for several years...can you guess what management decides to do in an attempt to correct it? They institute a new policy that states if you go "above and beyond" going forward you "may" get a little more of the pie next bonus cycle, yet there is no guarantee. So basically, do more and maybe we'll give you what you've been worth all along. Talk about an insult to those who have consistently gone above and beyond for mere peanuts year in and year out with no promotions or decent raises, and don't want to do it anymore since there was never an incentive or reward given when there should have been. Why couldn't BNP instead simply raise salaries on a whole, say 5%, since the problem was endemic within the corporation? Everyone without wool over their eyes knows that they're getting shafted at least 5% lower than current market rate. That's a no-brainer folks, but these fools in charge rather push more work on an already tired and demotivated workforce.

    French management coming over to fill positions of managers leaving (the new trend by the way) have absolutely NO clue, are rude and sarcastic, and do nothing to learn the culture or what matters to the employees here in North America. My group had a manager pushed on us from France with zero option to rebut. He started as a lower level manager and was promoted, within one year, to HEAD of the group, and now grabbing more groups from satellite offices. I was with the bank for SIX years and never saw anyone move that fast. Yet those of us who have been there and had fought the good fight were passed over constantly and handed the BS excuses as if we were all born this morning and weren't able to see the writing on the wall. BNP expects you to die in the position you're given if you're non-French or don't speak French, plain and simple. Now wonder people are leaving the bank like Krakatoa is about to explode for a second time.

    Avoid this place like the plague or don't listen and go and work for them. Eventually you'll see that this company is primitive both in it's business approach and handling of it's employees.

    There is no advice to give. This company is akin to the Titanic and Paris is too arrogant to move or see things differently. "Bank of the changing world" ....my you know what......

    Competitive salary, global reach, senior people from larger/higher-ranked banks

    Cons

    French. Fickle, do no seem very loyal to or willing to work with (especially) junior employees as they begin their career. Good luck trying to jump from middle office to front, or climb the ladder very much if at all in certain front office groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't call a guy a star analyst one week and let them go the next week, especially after they've been in the office until 12am every day all that week.

    Pros

    Health Insurance offers great mail prescription service. You'll need to be on good medication to work here. Flexible spending and 401K are like every other company.

    Cons

    As far as working in the U.S. office goes, don't expect to advance unless you: have European and/or dual citizenship; excel at ugly politics/bureaucracy; or you're a pro at metaphorically cutting throats. Leadership in the U.S. office is heavily non-American and follows the empirical style of management. It's a very "shut up and smile while you do as I say" operation. Executives are mostly European or French Canadian. Feels like one out of eight employees is a group head of some kind, but it's really not saying much. Self-absorption and connivance are key themes: Lots of condescension; too many hands in the soup with very little group cohesiveness; overflow of throwing people under buses (figuratively) in order to please higher ranks who sit on imaginary thrones and speak in the language of pomp, judgment, and self-entitlement.

    Parent office is in Paris, and step-parent office is in London... both are very confusing and mind-numbing when involved in discussions and authorization requests (you have to go through both before anything gets close to starting to get done). But oddly enough, neither office is half the migraine as the U.S. office. You'll only know the French global CEO from pictures, video clips, and the words of the select few U.S. senior management allowed to meet him. The North America CEO is a robotic French national with the personality of a dull doorknob who, like any other sociopath, thrives on feeling bigger than everyone and demands sycophant yes- men and women in his circle. Laugh when he laughs, part like the Red Sea and/or bow down when he walks into a room, and tell him how wonderful he is.

    Work/Life balance is a joke of epic proportion. I'm not saying it's a badge of honor, but you get bad looks when you don't tend to your blackberry before 6am, when you're not in the office before 8am and out after 6:30pm, and especially when you're not available at your manager's every beck and call throughout a 24hr day. Whether you're married or single, make sure to factor out 1-3hr driving/subway commute and 5-7hr sleep for yourself, because you are expected to breathe and live for this company and nothing/no-one else all other times. This company deserves less than zero stars for leadership and staff morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Being cc'ed in every one of your staff's emails (while you're out of office for many weeks traveling to extravagant conferences and socially exclusive events) does not make you an effective manager. Neither does barking your powers and orders, hiring outside firms or delegating those below your pay grade to do the work you should be doing yourself. Get over yourselves.
