    Pros

the biggest French bank. Nice people across different locations to work with. Good work vs. life balance. A lot of flexibility to organize our work.

    Cons

Paris, the headquarter is a bit more bureaucratic. However, the life there should be easy, with a quite good quality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more possibilities of career evolution. horizontal training is nice, but most of people expect vertical one.

I worked at BNP Paribas full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great team and working environment. Much friendlier than your average US Investment bank. Not being French is not an issue in this part of the bank.

    Cons

Salary is below competitors. Bonuses are also low. Management claims that they trade off lower pay for job security, but this was not entirely the case.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees more. It is no secret that other banks pay more, so this just causes employees to leave the firm after a while. Give more opportunities to young people.

I have been working at BNP Paribas as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    1. Good work life balance - being a French bank, many opportunities to have espresso breaks and take your whole who lunch break.
    2. Flat structure and access to senior management - not hierarchial and there is access to senior management and they are quite visible and involved in projects.
    3. Good canteen

    Cons

    1. Management - some managers are purely promoted due to technical experience rather than managerial experience
    2. Low turnover of staff as staff are too comfortable resulting in low performing individuals remaining in their roles or moved around to different roles.
    3. A soft approach for people management - those who are underperforming a not manager properly, nor are appraisals taken seriously.
    4. Admin related tasks take longer than expected times to turnaround e.g. ordering new software, or hardware

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A more structured approach is required for people management so this helps both the individual and the company becoming higher performing.

    Pros

The people are often of the same mindset, working together to achieve a common goals.
    Projects do come to fusion
Senior management encourage & support training on internal & external courses & professional courses.
Benefits are average and industry standard

    Cons

Remuneration of existing hard working & loyal staff are not bench marked to the market, and over a period of time tend to be underpaid. This results in the loss of good talent to the external market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper Management should recognise their existing talent, support them and promote within.

    Pros

Great interaction between departments, big focus on cooperation. Relaxed, flat hierarchy. Opportunities to move departments.

    Cons

BNPP is best in class for compensation management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decrease compensation bias between senior managers and juniors. This will incentive talented juniors to stay for more than a year or two.

I have been working at BNP Paribas full-time

    Pros

    - Good life balance. You don't work as long hours as other banks.
    - Friendly environment.
    - It's a good place to learn. There are training opportunities and people are eager to share their experience.
    - Entry salary is the same than competition.
    - There are many internal opportunities.
    - The benefits a part from compensation (health, promotion, art and culture events...) are way above average.

    Cons

    - French as a language prevails. So does the culture meaning long processes to get things up and working.
    - A few years in, your pay is below average (fix).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at BNP Paribas full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salary that is the strategy to retain staff. No development. Certainly no encouragement to reach your full potential. Even when you tell management you could do more work no one seems to care

    Cons

Very boring work, no job satisfaction. Very male dominated. Women were superimposed onto all male line up on publicity photos. I kid you not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to make a variety within job roles, rotate staff make roles multi functional. When people tell you they don't have enough to do find them something.

I have been working at BNP Paribas full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment. Day to day job i great as long as you are not too demanding with your personal career aspirations. People are friendly and management not to demanding. Great office culture.

    Cons

Lack of leadership. Poor management. Not inspiring. Everything works because of the dedication of the employs. Thinks could work more efficiently if there was proper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers are not sufficiently trained. They lack the vision and the appetite to drive dynamically a team ahead.

I have been working at BNP Paribas as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

On a higher level, they are very capitalised and risk-averse which is a great model in this day and age. They will never make the most money on the street but rarely if ever lose money (even post-08).
They are very loyal with their staff, a job at BNP is a job for life (but that may change at some point).
Time off, lack of pressure, good culture, no back-stabbing or finger-pointing

    Cons

    Low pay, too many middle-managers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more people on the ground, and specialists in one product-class
