Pros
The salary is good. The advance training your recieve is excellent. The insurance is good as is the medical care
Cons
no time off to live a personal life, days off often cancelled , vacation non-existant, work days 18 hours, no personal communication allowed while on ship. your not allowed personal computer communication or phone calls while on the ship. The days working and days off schedual is ignored. I haven't been off the payroll ship in the gulf except for training, doctors appoinments and a few other short assignments in 18 plus months.
Advice to Senior Management
All members from top management on the ship need to have there days off manditory and respected as time off. Away from work and communication from work. The management out on ships should be made to leave work and go ashore. As it was written in the work contract. The Payroll direct diposits, inventory controll, damage payouts, all done by computer and satellite link should be done at a on-shore office not on the ship. this would save money and time
Pros
Pay is good
Benefits are good
Alternate work schedule is great
Many good people to work with
Cons
Incompetent leadership within supply chain
Promotion is based on "who you know NOT what you know"
Supply Chain is one grade above premitive
Poor planning and poor execution
It is worse than congress when it comes to working together and executing plans
Hiring people, warm boddies, just to fill positions
Unfair pay practiices even within people within the same grade level
Advice to Senior Management
You have saturated the company with "warm bodies" in response to the gulf incident. It would be wise to focus on the good people who run everyday's work and incentivize them instead of paying hi-dollar salaries for newbies who know nothing about the business. HR needs more legs to stand on as they are pretty much considered administrative jobs. Empower your managers to make decisions as they know more than many of the directors who are nothing but figureheads.
Pros
The PSCM function at BP is growing rapidly, the on the job opportunities and learning were abundant. They treat the interns to paid housing, very competitive pay, and relocation reimbursement. BP also made strong efforts to extend business travel opportunities to interns for extended and enhanced job learning.
Cons
Some see the new-hire Challenger program having a con in its 2, 1.5 year rotations that demand you spend 1 rotation at a field location that generally speaking is not a desirable place to spend 18 months of your younger years.
Pros
Great work-life balance, with on-site childcare, fitness facilities, and a soon-to-be-completed on-site medical clinic.
Great group of people to work with, team harmony is emphasized.
Genuine concern for employees, emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
Challenging work with opportunities for personal advancement, with a new-hire training program followed by a technical development program.
You will typically change roles every 3 years.
Transparent review process with supervisor.
Cons
It is a mystery how employee reviews translate to merit increases or bonuses, and the promotion process is slow.
Base salaries are not up to par with other companies, but you will be enticed with bonuses that don't seem to materialize.
Want to advance into management? Unless you are British, don't plan on it.
Don't expect an international assignment if you are based in Houston -- very GoM-centric.
While your role will change every few years, the process is nebulous.
In the subsurface, you will be expected to define your career path early.
Be prepared for perpetual reorganization.
Senior management seems inept.
Morale is low due to the Deepwater Horizon accident.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management always seems to find a way to screw things up, which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. They are very reactive but need to be more proactive. They also need to value employees more and realize that salary does matter.
Pros
BP is very big on diversity which is a good thing. They are also big on training and have an extensive training program for undergrads and new hires. Also the office politics are kept to a minimum compared with other companies
Cons
Wish they had more of a global representation in the US
Pros
Pretty Good people to work with.
Very friendly working environment
Good 401k benefit company match
Good medical and other benefits
Cons
Management does not listen to lower employees
Poor delegation of work and responsibilities
Poor compensation for working extra
Poor career advancement
Little ability to choose where you move to
Advice to Senior Management
Give employees more choice in career placement. Reorganize the entire management structure and the work processes to make everything more efficient. Don't look at low level employees as expendable.
Pros
some departments much better than others
Cons
hr deptment is very incompatent
Advice to Senior Management
there are a lot of free loaders just taking up space and doing absolutely nothing!
Pros
I enjoy having the diversity and being able to learn in a positive environment.
Cons
Still have the good old boy clubs
Pros
Good location, good benefits, stable environment
Cons
"the incident", too many changes
Pros
Development opportunities are great.
Management strategies are communicated well down the chain.
Ample scope to move around the company and internationally.
One of the better places to start a career
Cons
Technical depth and competence is not highly rated.
Too reliant on EPMS contractors.
One too many org changes but not enough behavior changes
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on technical competence and project management and not just churning out projects. Quality of projects is not rated right now, so give veto to operations into projects decisions.
